On 2006-01-17 my eldest daughter in Seattle sent me her old digital camera.
I had been writing in my journal about raising this little kitty that I had found. I had taken lots of pictures but was waiting for WalMart to process them before I could post them online for my friends and family to see. She was so impatient to see the kitten that she bought herself a new camera and sent me her old one, a Canon Power Shot S30.
Shortly thereafter I wrote to a friend,
“You NEED a digital camera! It changes everything! It’s as close to instant gratification as you can get. Having one MAKES you want to take pictures... and in case you hadn’t noticed... taking pictures forces you to look at your world differently... more positively. Everything is beautiful... if you can just get the right camera angle. *giggle*”
Then, about a year later I wrote,
“OMG! My life is over! My camera doesn’t work this morning. My day won’t start.
Connor is outside all by himself, has been for an hour… and I can’t take his picture… so I’m back here at my computer keyboard, instead of outside in the fresh air.
The dogs have all been fed and gone outside to play… there wasn’t any point in joining them. I played around with the camera and the batteries a bit, couldn’t make it respond… so here I sit… reading reviews of new ones.”

Olympus Stylus 780 Pro Review
June 13th, 2007 by Photo-John
“The most recent addition to Olympus Stylus Digital camera line, the pocket-sized 7.1-megapixel Stylus 780 has a weatherproof body, 5x optical zoom lens, and 2.5-inch LCD display. Mechanical image stabilization and a maximum sensitivity of ISO 1600 set the Olympus Stylus 780 apart from previous Stylus digital cameras.
The Olympus Stylus 780 digital camera has a great set of features. Pocket-sized, weatherproof point-and-shoot performance is the name of the game with the Olympus Stylus line, which began back in 1991 with the Olympus Stylus/mju 35mm point-and-shoot camera. With a 5x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch LCD, mechanical and electronic image stabilization, and a weatherproof body, the Stylus 780 has a pedigree and all the parts to make a great take-everywhere digital camera.”
And you can take it out in the rain!
The one I bought was an Olympus Stylus 710, also weatherproof, which I got for $150 because it was the last one at Radio Shack.

If you do not yet have a digital camera, friends, think about getting one. I promise it will change your life too, much like your first computer did.
