I found the pictures in my California album but you and the others thought it might be an azalea or something like that.....I remember the blossoms were like the ones in this picture, they seem more like a leaf structure than a flower. I give up, I'll probably never know the proper name but I'll always remember how pretty they were in a season where I wouldn't find a single flower here at home! Thanks, Jen!
It's a Bougainvillea !and they can have flamboyant hues of purple, magenta, pink, red (YES, AND ORANGE), yellow , and white....The main bloom period comes in summer, but where winters are mild, vines can flower from spring through fall.....I'll have to bring this beauty inside when the temps drop....and just hope it will survive...
