3/16/08 Now that all the snow is gone, and I can see the ground, I realize just how much clean up I have to do; the leaves from the oak tree and the surrounding maple trees, still cover all my flower beds,I never rake or burn the leaves in the fall, but leave them there as a protective mulch for my prennial beds, and even though it's warming up, it's still a little too early to uncover them. We could still get a frost,
Living in Illinois, I've learned over the years, that you can't get in too big of a hurry. It won't officially be Spring until the 20th, and even then it's a judgement callfor gardeners. So I play a wait and see game with Mother Nature.
The Robins are fat and sassy, and all the birds in the area are in a mating frenzy, doing their ritual chases across the lawn and through the air. This morning, two very large doves were perchedatop the arbor, usually the make their nests in the oak tree, I hope they haven't moved int the arbor yet, because I still have to remove all that foilage, and would not want to disturb them.
It's a cool 44 degrees here today, and the sun is shining, blue sky with lots of low scattered clouds, that seem to be touching the ground at some points, There is still a "nip" in the air, But the signs are here, Mother Nature is waking up from her long winters sleep, and she must be feeling playful, because she has been teasing us, giving us just a taste of what's to come, Soon we'll be overwhelmed with Spring, it's color, scent and sound...I. for one relish it'coming!
