edited on August 22, 2009 04:34 PM ET I have a poodle who goes in and out and due to rain/snow there are times when the carpet has "track-in".I am thinking of changing to wood or laminate floors and would like some suggestions. I guess it's water spots VS mud or dirt tracks. Joyce from St. Louis |

Joyce,
AARP has informed me that I violated the Terms of the AARP posting requirements by listing
the website. Sorry about that..
They have also removed everything related to me posts...UGH!!

My sister has that "duraceramic". It is anything but durable. She has many areas that are damaged and contacting the seller for warranty repair has been a useless waste of energy. I believe my vinyl flooring holds up better. I have had experience with everything except bamboo, cork and laminate. These has been my observations. Tile is the most durable but it can be cold and when it comes to changing it, it is entailed and expensive. I love my hardwood, but my older dog could hardly get traction on it as she got aged. In her younger years, she put many scratches in it. She could not climb the stairs in our home because they were wood. I think I am just tired of trying to keep carpets clean. I do not want any wall to wall carpet anymore. With anything, wiping their paws when they enter helps, but my dog occasionally found laying in a shallow dirt pit comfy and my carpets would reflect that in no time, you can't very well wash them every time they come in.
Interesting topic. The entrance to my kitchen is straight from the outside...no entrance way, no mudroom and we track it all in in all types of weather. I have a braided rug at the door way inside and brush mats outside but snow, mud, dirt still gets to my vinyl floors. I, too, am looking for something that is low maintenance but sturdy. I'm considering bamboo flooring, it's ecologically friendly, very beautiful, and from what I'm told very maintainable.
Does anyone have bamboo flooring? Or cork flooring?

I have been reading all your comments, how interesting since I'm thinking of having my carpet replaced. My problem is do I want wood,or carpet again. I'm back and forth on this. Tiles for entry gave me ideas.
guess you'll just have to get down there and show them how!!!!!!
What an encouraging answer. Really nice of you to reply and I certainly appreciate it. I think the simplicity is definitely and answer for me and also to get the correct installation. We don't have a lot of snow in the St. Louis area but enough (plus rain) to create mud. I'm working on training JoJo to stop ate the door to get his feet whiped; however I also watch my daughter's toy poodle Skittlz and he'll need some more work. As a widow I can guarantee that they are well woth it.
The pet stores have many adoption animals for sale on the weekend. My miniature poodle is 2 1/2 and was abused. He favored a corner for almost 5 days when I brought his home; however, one would never know it now.
Thanks once again for your response.

I have laminate flooring in the living room and love it! we have 2 rat terriers, that track in daily. yes, you see the "foot prints" when their feet are wet. But it comes right up with a damp mop (just water) or a rag if you don't want the whole floor. Plus it is super easy to take care of. As far as shifting, I have none. I would say if you do then it is not installed properly.. They did tell us not to screw down the AC vents, because the floors do shift some. Well, if mine do, you don't notice it. just a dust mop for everyday dirt, and damp mop whenever you feel the need.
