Ethics & Today's Society
Even 25 years ago, people had a strong sense of ethics & civility, that often seem lacking today. Some people relate ethics with religion, and resist ethical codes for that reason. Let's talk about specific instances & social generalities .. what can we do to improve things? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I happen to be a member of a couple of political groups here on AARP and I have never seen so many copyright violations in my life. I'm probably guilty too. I posted from a site from The Boston Globe, just to apologize to the Group for miss quoting the President.

Maybe it's okay now-a-days to do this. Is it?

I can understand your position. There is a high energy & excitement, if you get involved politically (a lot more if your candidates win .. LOL). When I first joined a local political club, I was taken under the wing of an older women, who'd been the mayor of her town years earlier & been in politics forever. Her son ran for governor in the primary, and it was very exciting! Unfortunately, he ran against the first woman candidate, who was also very wealthy, the the timing was just right for her to win as an "outsider". I'd always sigh & wonder what it would have been like if my friend's son had won .. at least I would have gotten invited to tea at the governor's mansion!

You have a good point there! I admire you for being involved politically in your community. I'm hoping the weekly newspaper I write for doesn't want me to interview the local candidates because that's something I don't want to do. I write mostly human interest stories, business spotlights, culture fest, fall festivals, etc. and my pet issue column. That's all I want to tackle for right now. Pet sitting right now has kept me pretty busy. That's what I like best of all!

I gave up on the Group a long time ago, because I was tired of the liberals attacking me as soon as I said I was a Republican .. without waiting to hear what I was going to say, and the conservatives making Republicans look bad by being mean-spirited & disrespectful.

I'm active politically in real life, and I think a lot of the people who get on their soapboxes here & spout a lot of nonsense, are ones who don't actually do anything personally. It's a lot easier for them to have a big mouth, when they have cyber-anonymity!

Thanks Astraea.

I don't know too much about them; however, it maybe worth checking out. I was called on the carpet for posting an article from them in  "Issues & Elections". I don't know why I torture myself by being in this Group. They are never going to change and neither am I... I don't really think I'm learning much by being there! lol!

How accurate & unbiased do you find them?

The Women's Political Caucus of NJ recently issued a list of women candidates they're endorsing & candidates in general that they recommend (I don't quite understand the difference between "endorsing" and "recommending"). I don't know the WPC's structure, but it is supposed to be "unbiased". The candidates they endorsed or supported were more than 75% Democrats .. and I found it incredible that they endorsed/suppored EXACTLY the same percentage of Democrats/Republicans on both lists.

I mentioned it to a friend, and she said that if a candidate is against abortion, they don't get the WPC's support .. just based on that single issue!

I'm pro-choice, but there are many other issues to consider as well, and no one will convince me that the WPC isn't just a bunch of thinly veiled Democrats!

PS .. I like your new photo! I wish the system didn't change ALL the previous posts, so that we can go back & look at the other photos too!

I just email the authors and sometimes they respond and sometimes they don't. Usually if they see that it's going to a publication or site (such as AARP), they will give permission pretty quick. This website and author are from a grass roots, non-profit organization and probably was not taken very seriously in the political groups where I posted it. However, it sure brought up some really good things to know that this administration is doing.

Here the page about who they are:

How did you get permission to reprint something? Sometimes it's very difficult to get any response about something you read online.

I understand.

Although I don't like to duplicate topics, I did on the "Global Tax" because I think all Groups should be aware of what's inside this article. I did receive permission to reprint it. It's thought-provoking about what's happening with a global government.
