Hi, I am looking for someone to help me by sharing some of their experiences in life. I would love for an answer to any or all of these questions from anyone who feels they'd like to share. Please be as open and candid as possible. Thank you very much!
How is your perception of the Vietnam War different now?
How did the Cold War affect your life and thinking, and how afraid were you of a Soviet attack?
How were you affected by the various assassinations in the 1960s?
JFK's assasination was traumatic for me. RFK's was also traumatic even though I favored Gene McCarthy for Pres. MLK was just the saddest thing. I knew that with his death, the hope of so many people had been doused.
How prevalent were drugs in society in the 1960s?
Do you have more faith in government now than in 1968 (how about 1975?)? Why?
What is you most vivid memory of life in the 1960s?
What did race issues look like where you lived?
How did gender roles change in the 1960s & 1970s?
What did you do for fun?
How does the image/perception of the 1960s differ from your experience?

1. Vietnam
We were succered into that useless war by misguided hawks. When I was first made aware of the possible consequences and the domino effect, since it was coming from people I respected and trusted I was all for it. However with the Tet offensive I, and millions of other Americans realized we had been lied to.
2. Cold War
It provided the reason for the US to spend a lot of money on "defense" which had the good result of creating a lot of jobs and business. As a business man running a small electronics company I benifitted very much.
I was never afraid of a Soviet attack because I was sure the US was always much stronger then the Russians who I knew were basically very conservative when dealing with foreigh governments which did not adjoin their country.
3. Assasinations
Both Kennedy assinations were devastating and I did supect that there could be a plot of conservative US people who would do what they did. I am still not convinced that some government agency did not have some involvement with Jack Kennedy's death - possibly by simply egging on a seriously unbalanced man.
4. Drugs
Although I was aware of the widespread use of pot and even tried it once with no effect no one I knew was seriously involved. It was treated more like a game than a serious offense. No one believed it to be terribly dangerous other than the virilent anti-druggies than they do now.
5. Faith in Government
Before Vitnam I had great faith in the government which I now know was very naive. I now realize that your faith in the government should be based more on what your position in society is (financially or with connections) and/or who you know. A big difference is that we are now much more aware of how much money can influence what happens. We have more healthy cynicism.
6. Gender
I was very fortunate to have very strong female role mondels including a very indepndent mother and ultimately an even mre independent daughter. In my marraige I always considers my wife and I as equals except she sometimes was in a better position to judge a situation than was I. As a father I participated in the birth of my children, nurtured them from infancy on and considered myself exctrordinarily lucky to have such wonerful children
7. Fun
My major fun was my interest in wine, visiting vineyards in the US and Europe and a lot of travel both in Europe and to Australia and New Zealand. Also I enjoyed my work which at times, was very challenging.
