Do you have a sneaking suspicion that you’re paying way too much for prescription drugs? Well, according to the latest AARP RX Watchdog report you very well may be.
The report finds that manufacturer prices for widely used brand name prescription drugs jumped by nearly nine percent in 2008, marking the largest average annual increase in six years and far exceeding the general inflation rate of just 3.8 percent. However, manufacturer prices of widely used generic drugs continued to decrease in 2008, falling by an average of 10.6 percent.
Sue Scheible of the Patriot Ledger writes in her “A Good Age blog” that the AARP study should make many seniors sit up and take notice - and call their doctor. After all, switching to generic drugs might be one of the quickest and easiest ways to significantly reduce your health care costs.
