Thank you for the recommendation of the Patricia Cornwell books.  I will give them a try.  Have you ever read any of the following authors: Tess Gerritsen, Iris Johanssen or Kathy Reichs?  All very good.

Alaska was beautiful and the people very nice.It was the cruise line only that was bad.

Hi

A friend at work has taken several cruises and she told me that Carnival is definately a younger crowd and so we looked to a line with a little more mature  LOL crowd and it was.  I don't have anything to compare to but I was very pleased with the whole experience from the cleanliness and service to the meals etc.  Great staff.  I hope that although the ship experience was bad the scenery of Alaska made up somewhat for it.

Have you read any of Patricia Cornwell's books. Her earlier ones were really very good. The main character is Kaye Scarpetta , Medical Examiner for the state of Virginia. The books are full of psychological suspense .   I can't say I enjoyed any she wrote in the last few years .  But the following were great reads,  Body of Evidence, The Body Farm, All that Remains, Cruel and unusual, and From Potter's Field . They also have many of the same chacters in them as far as Scarpetta's family and Friends go.

Give them a try.

Good idea.  When you don't want to carry too much you want to make sure you will enjoy what you bring.

I have heard nothing but good things about Holland America. We went to Alaska this summer on Carnival. Really bad experience with them  !

Diane,

Thanks for your efforts!  I appreciate that!

As I just mentioned in a post to Spinner, I read one chapter of each book and wanted to go further, but I kept to my one chapter plan.  I liked all of the books! Now I've begun reading A Killing Gift by Leslie Glass.  I decided to start this one first because I want to make sure this is good enough to take on the train. Although I really like her lead character in this series, the last book I read in that series was awful.  But, hooray!  It is a good read!
