Do you remember the simple summers? How you use to play hide and seek in the dark and the lone ranger was on TV. You didn’t always go to a swimming pool. We had a TV but Saturday mornings was the only entrust we only had except on Sunday nights when Bonanza was on. We had a strong swing set and we would play Tarzan, truck driver, a fighter pilot and yes cops and robbers. The girls had one doll that they dress up and undress and had tea parties. Girls always wore dresses way below the knees; in fact most women wore dresses. Pants on a girl were really looked down upon. We played the pretend game all the time and it didn’t mater who you where. The boys would always look for big boxes that appliances came in to build forts and huts and castles and swap comic books. Girls would ride their tricycles with flashing ribbons, or colored paper in the spokes pretending to go shopping. If you lived in a small town there was always or a stream to play in when it got hot. Then you would collect things like snakes, frogs, and tadpoles. And when you came home mom would always make you empty your pockets in the back yard before you came into the house for dinner. For boys every night was bath night because of the mud fights or the dirt clod fights. And when you left town for a week it didn’t matter if you left the door unlocked. If there was a parade you had to go see it. Saturdays you always went to the move theaters to watch the woof man in the bronks. Sometimes there was a double feature and that made it nice for mom to get us out of her hair for a while. But when you walked out of the theaters your eyes hurt because the sun was so bright. You mom would always give you a sack with sandwiches to eat instead of giving you money to buy candy. The good guy always won and the bad guys always got put in jail. A big treat was when you would go with your grandparents somewhere because they where good for a hot dog or hamburger. It was always water or milk for us but mostly water. And wait 30 minutes after you have eaten before you get back in the water. I always thought that was a stupid rule and hardly ever followed it. Dad didn’t come home and tell us the story in the paper that someone killed a whole bunch of people in the library. Life was simple and your task was to eat, play and try and stay up past your bed time, and throw-up in front of girls to make them sick. Parks where an extra you could climb a tree ever day for the whole summer and never climb the same one twice. Most people had one car if none at all. Sometimes you could get gas as cheep as $.05 a gallon or at least get a free Popsicle. Those where the simple days and see how far we have come!!!!

Hi Dee,

Take care my friend, and very nice post,

Yes, I remember it well. The days of imagination. Playing games like Captain May I or Mother May I, Red Light, Green Light, Red Rover, etc. Playing marbles or playing with my plastic army men or cowboys and Indians. Jumping rope or playing hopscotch. Playing board games and kickball at the park. We went to the movies every Sunday. The movie was 50 cents and we always got a quarter to spend. Popcorn and soda were each a dime and with the 5 cents left I always bought either a Snirkle candy bar or a Slow Poke sucker because they lasted the longest. I loved going to the local sweet shop and buying penny candy like kit kats, banana splits, snaps, and pumpkin seeds. I remember hitting caps with a rock and collecting hickory nuts and smashing them with our shoes and eating the meat from inside. We always had to be in the house when the street lights came on. I remember hurrying home from school to watch "Where The Action Is". Watching "Ed Sullivan", music shows like "Shindig" and "Hullabaloo" and westerns like "Tombstone Territory", "Bat Masterson", "Sugarfoot", and so many more, variety shows like Arthur Godfrey, Dinah Shore, Dean Martin, etc., game shows like "Truth or Consequences", "What's My Line", "To Tell the Truth" and "Jeopardy". It was a great time to grow up. I feel sorry for the kids of today. They don't know what they're missing.

How well do I remember! I also long for the return of those days in my personal life. I was just thinking earlier about how easy it once was to purchase a candy bar. Today, there are so many choices, it is sometimes difficult to make up my mind. Shame on me! LOL
AH, YES, THE SIMPLE DAYS, HOW I LONG FOR THEM .
