Where You From, Anyway?
This group has been created to discuss our families who, like so many before them, came to this country from overseas. My family is from Russia, Scotland and Switzerland, and my father was the first natural born American in my family. Please feel free to join and contribute stories, images and anecdotes as you see fit.

I am involved with a community organization in a rural area where many of the families are inter-related.  I would like to start a project of mapping all of these families.  Does anyone have a recommendation for software that is more oriented towards a broad scale history rather than a vertical time-line orientation?  Thanks for your ideas!

I've been doing genealogy for years and have tried most of the popular software products. The one that I've been using for the past five years and really like is Family Tree Maker. I recently upgraded to the 2010 release and like it a lot. It's produced by Ancestry.com, which is also the largest and most popular genealogy web site. I have over 3000 people in my database running on a slow Windows XP PC, and the software still runs fast.
