If you've got a business to run, or maybe could use some help to organize your money/accounts... something  free would be good, right?

Microsoft has a sweet free deal right now... Microsoft Office Accounting 2009 for free and you can download it here>>

Quickbooks is what I meant.  It's a highly overated 'shoebox' program that is so simple to use, and mess up that some accountants recommend it to companies so they can hire a computer clerk to take care of income and expenses.  MS Money Professional is for the home-worker, or independent contractor.

Just out of curiosity then (I'm ignorant).

Around here, it seems everyone uses Quickbooks. Isn't that for small business? I've not seen ads for MS Money knowledge. Of course, purely anecdotal.

I don't know how 'robust' these various software packages are.

I've been an accounting professional for over a dozen years now and use MS Money Professional for my small business.  I've zero complaint with it.  However, for a business I do prefer Peachtree over Intuit's Quicken.

True that. I'm not crazy about MS in general. But, many others are... and MS so seldom gives anything, so I thought I'd post it. (Ihave a Mac for personal use.)

Not accounting software, but it does do spreadsheets... and is comparable to and compatible with MS Office... I like OpenOffice Productivity Suite. It's free (donationware). I installed it for my 13 yr old grandson. He does PowerPoint projects with it for school.

"....something  free would be good, right?...".

Maybe. It's very large (200mb) and has some very mixed reviews as to how good it is.

Of course, almost all software has mixed reviews.

If you're really trying to start a business with little capital, and have a PC capable of holding and running this, it might be a good idea.
