Remember the day's when we were young, when our Mother or Aunts wore mink stoles, and sometimes they weren't even outside! :-) Remember the day's when we played hop scotch, bought our first car, most of us married, and fewer got divorced! Remember Radio and Early TV, We didn't have the Internet in those day's. In fact we didn't even have Cell phones. What Memories do you have to share about your life? Join in the fun! Shelby

Although I'm a girly girl, I have very fond memories of wanting (in addition to all my girly arts and dolls and sewing machines) the same things that the boys in my elementary school class had!  I wanted a cowgirl outfit with gun and hat, I wanted Lincoln Logs, and Lego Blocks; I wanted a train with the white powder smoke coming from the engine.  I got a Mandrake the Magician set, but Daddy didn't have time to teach me all the tricks.  I wanted cat-eye marbles along with my jacks.  As I grew up, I suspect God was preparing me to become the mother of my three sons, for  twenty years later, I spent many a day on the floor with them playing with similar toys, and then with my grandson.

My favorite TV shows were all male-centric, too:  Tarzan, Sky King, Hopalong Cassidy,  Jungle Boy, Howdy Doody, The Millionaire, Ed Sullivan, Buster Brown and His Dog Tige...I guess I couldn't help that, though, because only men were featured prominently on TV - there were no girly shows, so we took what we could get...maybe it contributed to me becoming so bossy and a power/control-freak-type person...actually, it helped me to become independent and self-sufficient when times got hard for us.

When Daddy built our first nice house, he put in extension sockets, so when we wanted to, we could plug in or unplug phones at various locations around the house.  They had four prongs and could be snatched out (and destroyed if hard enough) at whim, or, if Mama was in the kitchen, I could take the phone  (FRanklin 4033) from the bedroom, and plug it in at the countertop.  Then, while I was concentration on my TV show, she would interrupt to "come get this phone and plug it back up."  When she didn't want to be bothered, she would unplug all the phones.

Hi Red Bear Woman,

We must have grown up at the same time!   I remember the telephone numbers with the letters too.  In fact, the local drug store was Endicott 9.

Then as a child I enjoyed the same TV Shows you did.  However, when I was a Teenager,  I watched the movies on "The Late Show", and "The Late Late Show".

I guess I was an insomniac way back then too, even when I had school the next day.  I can still hear the theme music in my mind.

Then too I'm sure you remember the jingles for Halo Shampoo and Doublemint Chewing Gum!   Can you hear it now too.  What about Diana Shore singing, "See The USA in your Chevrolet"?

If my memory serves me right this was the time period when my parents got me a Pink Princess Phone for my bedroom, and that  was a really treat.  I had just entered high school around then.

We had fond memories back then, and I thank you for starting this excellent group topic, even if I'm late in posting!  Have yourself a lovely weekend!    Shelby

Hi Red Bear Woman, and Welcome,

Thank you for your excellent and broad Group Topic.   Some of  favorite shows were the same like Howdy Doody, but I would include Captain Video and his Video Rangers, and Kookla Fran and Olie.

In terms of adult programing when I was young, it was Milton Berle's Texaco Star Theater, The Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca Show, and I liked the Ed Sullivan Show like you did.  Then I know we all loved LUCY, didn't we?

In terms of Toys, I always loved Dolls, and had a doll by the name of "Betty" which I would take to central park, and sit there with my Kool Aid.   I also had little show dolls my parents bought me which were dolls which represented different countries, and I ruined them by brushing their hair, and could never get it back nicely!

However, even though I was girly girly as you stated you were, I would also go to the park and had snowball and dirt fights with the little boys, which was my Tom Boy side coming out.  I also loved to Roller Skate, and had bruised knees, which formed into scabs when I would fall

I also enjoyed belly whopping down the hills in Central Park with my Sled.  In fact, years later when I attending Vermont College for Woman, I saw some children with their sleds, and decided to recapture the memory myself.

So, I bought a sled in town, took it to a hill, but couldn't belly-whop, because I mistakenly bought a sled with a wheel in front.  However, I remained undaunted, for I was determined to slide down that hill.  ;-))

Unfortunately I found the snow too deep to slide, and I was just too plain cold to stay out there long!   So I came to the conclusion that can't recapture some of those special times, except within our memories, and those memories I will always hold dear!!

In fact, as a teenager, I remember my pink Princess Phone which I had in my Bedroom.  Even back then, I was an insomniac and watched movies on "The Late Show, and The Late Late Show" although I had school the next morning.  I guess my parents should have given me a TV in my Bedroom.    In my minds ears, I could even hear the theme music.

Now, I want to thank you again for bringing my memories to life once more with this wonderful Group Topic!    Shelby

I remember those old four prong phones--it's been a while! I used to like the boys toys better too--matchbox cars and bicycles were more fun than baby dolls and jacks.
