REMEMBER THOSE SPECIAL TIMES!!
Remember the day's when we were young, when our Mother or Aunts wore mink stoles, and sometimes they weren't even outside! :-) Remember the day's when we played hop scotch, bought our first car, most of us married, and fewer got divorced! Remember Radio and Early TV, We didn't have the Internet in those day's. In fact we didn't even have Cell phones. What Memories do you have to share about your life? Join in the fun! Shelby

REMEMBER ROLLER SKATING IN A MAKESHIFT RINK, TENT STYLE, SET UP IN THE PARK IN THE SUMMER.  IT WAS SORT OF THE HOT SPOT FOR THE SUMMER.  BOYS WOULD PARK OUTSIDE THE RINK IN THEIR CANDY APPLE RED, 57, CHEVY, OR WHATEVER HOT ROD THEY HAD, AND WE GIRLS WOULD SKATE OUR BEST.  MUSIC WAS BLARING "WHO WEARS SHORT SHORTS?"  WELL, WE DID...DANCING TO "TEEN ANGEL" AND WEARING SHORT SHORTS.....WOOT WOOT.  DRESSING YOUR SKATES WITH POM POMS.  AND, JUST DYING FOR THE BEST SKATER, BEST LOOKING GUY TO ASK YOU TO SKATE IN THE COUPLES MOONLIGHT SKATE.  SO INNOCENT, BUT SO DREAMY.  I FEEL SO SORRY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY TO NOT KNOW THAT GUSHY, SIMPLE TIME.

Hi Bobbie,

Thank  you for your post, and I'm sorry to have been so behind  in my replies.  Those who are younger think that they will always look as they do, but like us, eventually age will creep up on them as well.

Interestingly when I was young, I thought my Grandma was old, and now realize she was not as old as I had originally thought, because I'm a Grandmother now, and my oldest Grandsons are in College, which is a real jolt!  ;-))

Then too, when I look at others who are my age, I see myself as younger, because I don't feel my own age!   Yet, I know my place, and while I might look at a good looking younger man, I now only look.

I just wish Antonio Banderas would look at me the same way he looks at other female stars in the movies.  Guess what, I'd be a goner, and forget about knowing my place!  ;-))  Shelby

Oh, yes...I remember my own skating skirt...and I had the legs to wear it then.  Now, I swear even my knees have saddlebags.  I could actually do the splits on skates and float around the rink.  I do well to bend over quickly now.  But, I do beleive I am in better shape than I might be otherwise, and credit the fact that I was an active child and teenager and am more active now than most of my grandkids.   Can you imagine what this generation will be like.  LOL...

Hi Bobbie, and I'm glad you posted this topic.

I used to go Roller Skating in Central Park when I was 10 and 12 years of age, and always had bruises and scabs from falling.  Years later when I was a teenager, I would go to the Roller Skating Rink, wearing my little aqua skating skirt with white fur on the bottom, and a matching aqua sweater to match.

They had organ type of music. Then when they announced "Couples Only", I would be happy when a fellow would come and ask me to skate with him, even though I was not a fancy skater, I still skated well to the music!

Unfortunately as we age, we don't hold up so when when we fall.  I fell then, only because of teenagers who would skate fast and cut through in front of us, so I stopped going to the rinks, but our memories live on, don't they?   Shelby

we never had the temporary tents--but the roller rink was a great part of growing up
trying to skate backwards, doing the "hokey pokey", learning to do crossover turns (and then of course the one unexpected fall that fractured a vertbrae -- hurt a lot but the old injury was only discovered recently)

Best skate--a couples skate with my 5 year old step son where we won the prize for doing "walk like an Egyptian" moves
