I am constantly accused of speaking for the evil inusruance companies and spending all my time listing to talk radio. But my opposition to the Democratic plan for medical care is not based on those. I am against the damage that it will do to our country and to our medical care.
The latest bill we have is the Pelosi bill just passed in the middle of the night. It increases taxes on everyone, decreases choice, requires government approval of virtually every insurance policy in the country (except those provided to members of Congress), and will increase the cost of care because providers will pay more taxes. The worst is reserved for Medicare. If you liked HMO's you will love the new setup. Your nice friendly gate keeper who might not be a doctor and will have financial insentives to deny you access to specialists and care. It is in the bill, read it. This article outlines some of the problems and has a link to the complete text.

You've got a good one.
Before redistricting in 2000, Brad Sherman was my Congressman. Although he's a self acknowledged "progressive" he it my kind of congressman. He has held open town hall meetings at least twice a year and has never had "screeners" at the door to ensure a friendly audience. He has always replied to my emails, even now when he is not my representative, with good and thoughtful replies.
He is new.He got elected when Hillary went to DC and Kristian Gillibrand took her position...He is strong on education and veteran benefits....I e-mail him at least 2 times a week about various things..He responds, that's more than i can say for our Senators... This guy is rich beyond belief. I can't understand why he would even bother...
Yeah, I know the Waxman name well..There are a lot of people on both sides of the aisle that need to go..If you have more than 15 years in Congress it's time to leave..Thee longer they are there the more chance they have to get caught up in a scandal..Look at Murtha,he is a prime example of a corrupt politician...He rode his "War Hero" persona into the ground..He should have went to jail during the ab-scam era...
The people on this message board keep saying it won't reduce benefits or raise cost, but i can't for the life of me figure how you could take that amount of money away and it won't have any impact.. If there's that much waste and fraud, then i guess someone needs to go to jail...
I have a new found respect for my Congressman,i email him and told him so...He did an interview on local TV and said, the calls to his office were 2 to 1 for voting no...He went with the wishes of the people he represents...Imagine that a politician who actually pays attention to his constituents, instead of furthering HIS own agenda...To top it off he is a Democrat...He will probably get the stare down from Pelosi..
As a disabled 52 yr. old American that has had trouble getting health insurance in the past, because of pre-existing conditions, you'd think I'd be all for this bill. I also run into the dreaded "Donut Hole" for my medications every August, after which my medications run about $450./month. Another item this bill supposedly addresses. I''m also sympathetic to those that can't afford health insurance, about which something needs to be done. Unfortunately, the plan put forth by Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats is another takeover by the government, which has NEVER successfully run ANYTHING. Kind of like our President, but that's another matter. Most recently it was the Cash for Clunkers program which seems as simple as any program could ever be, but now all of the screwups are coming to light. How about the massive government stimulus program? All of the jobs that were supposedly saved or created? Virtually everything the Government gets involved in becomes another screwup. How in heaven's name could they ever run 1/6th of our economy?
Without question, our healthcare system needs to be reformed, but not via a massive 2000+ page bill that will only create more chaos and government corruption and ultimately take the country down the same road as California . . . . BANKRUPTCY. If there is all of this fraud in Medicare . . . . FIX IT FIRST. Allow insurance companies to compete across state lines. Get rid of the anti-trust exemption that insurance companies enjoy. Bring about tort reform, to eliminate frivolous lawsuits and bring Doctors' insurance rates down so they can charge less. Allow for health savings accounts that effectively reward people by encouraging them to live healthy lifestyles.
As someone who lived in Holland in the 1990's, and experienced socialized medicine, it would be the worst mistake our great country could ever take. Reform, yes, by tweaking the best healthcare system in the World, but don't allow the government to get their greedy hands on ONE MORE PROGRAM. If anything we need a much smaller more efficient government that is accountable to the people who elected them. If they want to ignore us, 2010 is just around the corner and the WILL BE sweeping changes . . . mark my word.
Pelosi, Reed, Frank, and Dodd work on your resume's cause you'll need new jobs!
Perhaps what happened in NJ was your Congressman's wake up call. Too bad the rest of em who voted for Pillosi's bill didn't "get it"... yet.
Tell me what is SO WONDERFUL about this----
According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, (BEA), health care in 2006 cost us $1.9 trillion or about $6,359 per capita. Health care has held a growing lead as our largest single expenditure since 1990 when it surpassed housing
. It represents 20.6% of our personal expenditures, 38% more than housing and 87% more (almost double) what we spend on food! In 2006 it represented 14.4% of our GDP and according to the CMS, is projected to double to $4 trillion, 20% of our GDP in 2016, just 8 short years, outpacing inflation by a factor of about 2 as it has since the 1960's.
Unfortunately my Congressman, who would need a Google map to even locate his district because he hasn't visited it in years, has his name on the bill. His name is Henry Waxman.
Waxman's staff refused to take calls and any emails that ask for an explanation of such things as how the $500 Billion in cuts from Medicare will be accomplished are responded to with a curt, "thanks for you input" response. "The Nose" amkes no effort at all to deal with his constituents. Why? Because the Republicans have not had a candidate to run against him since 2004.
The point is they are telling lies, when has the President been transparent???? The drones on here buy into everything Obama and the Democratic controlled congress says... You could spend 10 days spoon feeding them information and they would simply ignore the facts...
I see my Congressman didn't vote for this crappy bill.or at least i didn't see his name on the list of yeas..That surprises me more than any of this, because he is an Obama apologist and would fit right in here with the rest of the whiners and malcontents on the left...
Let's steal 500 billion form medicare and pay for the younger generation's health care....I would guess not many of the people on here will qualify for the government cheese, err i mean health care handout...
