Divided We Fail

Americans should have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that their futures will be financially secure. Yet, millions of Americans worry about their health and long-term financial security. For many, the American dream is eroding along with this security.

AARP, Business Roundtable, SEIU, and NFIB believe all Americans should have access to affordable, quality health care and peace of mind about their future long-term financial security, and we're going to mobilize our members and the public to demand solutions.

Visit www.dividedwefail.org to find out more.

Has AARP ever asked any member their opinion, on any issue, or have they taken on the role of speaking for us without any input?  Granted, I think that this organization was set up for the benefit of of retirees and those nearing the retirement age, so its intended goals and abjectives to help that group is comendable. However; other than receiving ocassional preprinted statements from AARP to be forwarded to my elected US Representative or Senator, along with a small contribution to AARP, my opinion has never been asked as to our wants and needs.

I am continualy perplexed by this absence of information gathering on AARP's part and their puplicized endorsoements, as if though we agree with their position.  How can they do that without first finding out from the members what we want?

Just a thought, because without electing them how can they speak for us?  What ever they say is just an opinion of a few select members in the hierarchy of the AARP organization. Those are their opininins and don't necessarily reflect those of the membership.

Maybe a group should be set up where are concerns could be forwarded to AARPS' Leadership

Just a thought!

A factual source to support that claim, please?  (And make it current to today, not prior to the start of the August revolt of Americans standing up to speak out against leftist tyranny in DC).

I watched that event...The whole thing was rehearsed...The President wasn't asked any tough questions and the audience was all partisans...I knew right then that AARP would sell us out...I guess i was right....

500 billion taken form medicare and it won't hurt seniors..Only the most ardent Democrat would believe that...The plan won't raise the deficit one dime, one more lie...

Golf:

Where do you find that out,...they are gaining more than losing?

How can I verify that?

You should submit that question to AARP when you receive their invoice for annual dues. Don't pay them until you get the question is answered to your satisfaction.

Have you ever thought that perhaps when one is so far on the right, everyone else is on their left? No AARP is not becoming an organization of "lefties", it is that those on the right are becoming more isolaated from the mainstream of American politics.

Bob Dylan sang it almost fifty years ago "The times, they are a changing"

Come gather around people whereever you roam and admit that the waters around you have grown and that soon you will be swept like a stone

Come senators and congressmen, please heed the call. Don't stand in the doorway, don't block out the hall.

It was true back in the 1960s and it is true today, the times, they are a changing.

AARP is gaining more members than they are losing. Keep in mind that the large baby boom generation is now old enough to become members of AARP. That generation is mostly more liberal than the older generation and many of them are still working rather than being retired. Also many members who are joining AARP are also more educated and tolerant than older members have been. Could it be that it is you conservatives who may be out of touch?

Yes on many times and on many occasions AARP has asked for my opinion and I have given it to them. It might help if one becomes active in a local chapter. It is there and through member surveys that they get their support; not disgruntled people who sit on their duffs and complain but people who are active in the organization and contribute to it. That is how all organizations operate.
