Well, I am finally getting some things finished up around here. Yesterday I pulled my annuals out of the beds and raked up the area ! Roses are still blooming in Ga. It rained cats and dogs today ( remember that saying ladies ?) So, i made an apple pie and canned my applesauce.

This is the first time I used my machine to bind a shelter quilt. It doesn't look too bad. Any tips for using this method to bind ? I have few more to go . Tomorrow is our quilt guild , business meeting, nomination of new officers and pot luck. I haven't attended for several weeks and not often since June.

It seems quiet here on AARP Quilt to live. Everyone busy with there projects? Don't forget to share your ideals and let all of us know how you are doing.

I hate to admit it but ...I love the Aquarium on Facebook and the Fish World.  It's the only way I'm going to have fish in my house.  I bought bargain fabric for pillowcases at the local quilt guild's "garage sale."  I've been working on them.  They are nice to have for emergency gifts and/or gift wrapping.

I don't know if it is in the air or wha tthe prooblem is Barb, but I am having a rough time getting back into sewing too. It is so nice out all I want to do is sleep late in the cool weather , then walk and work in the yard. Have to get back to it though.

My quilt group is always motivating. Such creative talented women !

Then there  is the Aquarium  on Face book.I spend too much time spent on the computer ~

Hang in there our urge to sew will return.

I'm never happy with my machine sewn bindings.  I always end up ripping them and redoing by hand.  Yes, there's a lot to learn.  I know that I could not spend the time to do hand sewn bindings for charitable contributions.

I miss the quilting group posts.  I haven't been sewing too much lately.  I am planning to go into town to the quilt shop to buy more fabric for our last set of swap blocks.

Saturday, our local quilt guild is holding a 'rummage' sale.  I'm looking forward to attending.  All the goods on sale are supposed to be quilt related...patterns, fabrics, etc.  One woman in the guild rescues old quilts, tops and block, as well as other vintage handmade items.  I hope that my creativity is refreshed.

Hi Karen,

I don't know what kinds of tips you are looking for.  I usually cut my strips 2" wide so they are nice and tight when turned over the quilt sandwich.  I only recently learned that there should be no extra space in the binding but completely filled with the quilt sandwich.  I had been leaving 'room'  thinking I was causing less wear'n'tear on the binding edge.   Just shows that there is always much to learn.

I have a tip for sewing binding on the sewing machine.

When putting on binding the usually way you fold the binding, sews raw edge to the front of the quilt then turnes the binding  it to the back and hand stitches the folded  edge to the back of the quilt.

If you want to sew the binding completely by machine, you will do better to sew the raw edge to the back of the quilt then turn the folded edge to the front of the quilt then sew it down with a decorative machine stitch.

I have used this method on table runners and crib quilts.
