Well, Hi Gang. It's week 2 now in our Hunting Session and the SNOW has arrived. Right now as I look out my window, I can see the snow at about 3,500 feet and still falling. Now I think you will get a kick out of my latest adventure. A few day's ago we took a trip to try to find some game. We went to a place called Crow Creek. We started up the mountain and took a new rout this time. Instead of going to the West Fork, we took the East Fork. Up and up and up and up we went. After three hours we finially found some snow. My buddy turend to me and said, OLY, do you have a clue were we are?????? Not a clue I said, never been here....... The road was getting rather rough now and we had to put the TOYOTA in 4-weel drive. We would stop along the way and looked for tracks and finialy found some. There were some nice Deer tracks around a mud hole so we continued up and up the Mountain. Oh, Lookee there. More tracks, I said, and so we stoped. WOW, my buddy said, what are these. Oh, those are Mountain Lion and over here are some Wolf Tracks and these are Bear Tracks, big bear tracks!!! but no deer or Elk tracks. By now we were on a one lane road and were making our own tracks. Guess we were the only DUMMY's to venture this high. Now, we both had our CELL PHONES with us, but, funny thing about a cell phone...... YOU NEED A SIGNAL. About now, the thought of starting back popped in my head so I started looking for a wide place to turn around. No such luck so we keep going up. The grade of the road was getting steep by now and the Toyota powered down and quit. I got the Toyota going again and tried to get to the next platow. In trying to do this, silly me, I left the Toyota in 4-weel LOW instead of putting it in 4-weel High. I did a nice job of SMOKING THE CLUTH, but, we made it to the top and keep going, up and up and up. OH DARN, would you lookee there and you guessed it, The road was blocked with some fallen trees. About the only item I didn't bring with us was a CHANE SAW. We stopped and took a look around. My buddy looked at me and said, What Do We Do Now?????? As I was turning around, what do you think came into view........ A CEEL PHONE TOWER. In answer to your question I said, If you have any body you think you should call, NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME. He made some calls and so did I, two to be exact. My first call was to my good friend Mike and after I told him of our mess we were in I looked at my watch, it was 5:00 PM and the sun was going down. Mike I said, If you don't hear from me by 10:00 PM, call the boy's and come a lookin. The next call was to the COP SHOP and I gave them the same message. Who did you call, my buddy asked? Don't worry, we won't be left for Bear food. OK, back to our problem, JUST HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS MESS!!!!!!! There is no room to turn around, the road is blocked, so, as near as I can figure the first turn around spot is about 5 miles back down the Mountain. GET IN, I SAID, WE ARE BACKING DOWN. Well after some tricky driving we came to a good place to turn around and we got back down. You get into these situations offten my buddy asked???? Oh, I manage to get into a tight spot now and again, LOL, LOL, LOL. When I got home I looked on my Computor TOPO map to see just were in the heck we were. We were at a place called Taft Peek, elevation 7,900 feet. No wonder I could see for ever.............

                              Post number 3 next week,

                                                                         OLY

WOW Oly - that was some adventure for you.  So glad it worked out alright for you but .. in the meantime I can see where one would just get a tad nervous over the situation you found yourself in.

This was quite a tale and one you could really write a book on I'm sure along with all your other adventuresome travels in that area you live in.  My most nerve wracking adventure would be probably getting myself "unlost" in a confusing, twisting and turning housing track - LOL.

Please do take care and I can't wait for your next installment.

Mountainman,  that was very rich.  I lived in Denver for my first 53 years and we went often up in the hills.  Took our poor flatlander cousins from Kansas up to narrow spots just for fun.  Never had anything like that happen, my dad didn't want to take a dirt road and come home to wash the car again.  No cell phones back then either.  Well, now you know where to look for deer, bear, cougars, and wolfs.  Thank goodness for the TOPO maps, trying to get one of Indiana.  I know they must have hills in this state somewhere. lol.  If I remember right, if 2 cars meet on a one lane road, the one going uphill has the right of way, but what if it is a mean ol' bear?????  Draw straws, lol.

Take care and happy hunting season.

Doris

I read your post and laughed the whole time. It is a great post. Could you tell the air was thinner??? But, we are glad you made it home.

We do not do wool very much in San Antonio infact, we do not do it at all. I would love to be in the mountains in the fall., We have to be home by mid-September.

My husband is from Telluride and Grand Junction, CO, we go to the mountains every three or four years.

Keep traveling and telling us.
