In your opinion what movie should we consider seeing at our local Movie Theater and which Movies should we avoid? Now, I don't want this Topic to end with a few thoughts, for many of our Members go to the movies weekly, and would appreciate your valuable suggestions! Talk to you soon and have a great week! Hi Everyone,
My new Group Topic asking for opinions on "THE BOX" which is a film opening this weekend.
Unfortunately, due to a glitch it's not coming though on the website as yet. If it does finally come through, please post in either location.
I am going to see it on Saturday Night and thought it would be fun to discuss it on Sunday or in the near future. Here is the trailer below. Shelby

Hi Jan,
Thank you for your post. I like Science Fiction movies too, even though I haven't seen many lately.
My favorites were from years ago, like "The Time Machine, and "The Illustrated Man".
A more recent film but not new film is "Gattaca". Did you see this movie as it's fascinating?

I got started on the Harry Potter series by reading the books my kids were raving about. I love science fiction so they were right up my alley, clean antics, special effects, centering on witches and warlocks in their special school. I have one on reserve with netflix but they are very slow to release dvd's until latest movie hits the screen. it's lighthearted fun, whimsy. Along with that, I'd recommend THE LIBRARIAN series, made for TV, again, whimsy but more adult, starring Bob Newhart and Noah Wiley. I like things a bit unusual but lately have been seeing a lot of B movies. Nothing of particular note. Sometimes I put films in Q when they first hit the screen and wait for release. I get them sooner after dvd comes out. Jan
Hi Janah,
Have you gotten to see the last "Harry Potter" on DVD? I know you were waiting with great anticipation to see this movie.
I haven't seen the series, and don't you have to have to have a good base to see the last. What is your opinion? Shelby
Hi Janice,
I never thought about the voices in Matt Damon's head in "The Informant". Now will I have to see that movie over again, or should i just pass, as I would probably fall asleep once again? ;-))
The movie I can't wait to see is AMILIA, with Hillary Swank and Richard Gere. As I was telling Janese, I feel she will be up for an Academy Award for this role after seeing the previews!
Thank you, I feel we will have the opportunity to meet, and perhaps it will be early in the year, depending upon my Job! Well, I had better get ready to go now, and have yourself a good day! Shelby
Hi Janice,
Unfortunately "The Burning Plain" is not playing in our area. Perhaps soon, and I'll keep it in mind, because I feel Charlize Theron is a fine Actress.
I thought she was scary good in" Monster" when Charlize Theron played Eileen Wuornos. One wouldn't even know how pretty she was in that one! She well deserved the Academy Award which she won.
I just heard that Hillary Swank is opening in a new film next week in "Amilia", and I can't wait to see that one! I hope my friend is right about the opening date.
Actually both Actresses are very dedicated not to over expose themselves, and to be in worthy films, which show off their talent, just like Hilary Swank in "Boy's Don't Cry", and she won the Oscar for that film. Shelby
Haven't posted for a while because there haven't been any films I've thought were worth recommending until yesterday. We saw The Burning Plain with Charlize Theron. It was very well done - great story line and fine acting. Hope it is playing in your area.
Hi Shelby - Glad you did see The Informant. I met a friend for lunch after we saw the movie and like you, she felt Matt Damon's performance was excellent. She said she was lost as to what was going on also, but after a while, she realized that he was bipolar and all the time he was narrating the story, it was the voices that were going on in his head so what he said for the mostpart didn't follow what was actually happening - kind of meandering. Then I "got it". I am sad to say that I still don't feel the story deserved a full length motion picture - perhaps a documentary would have been better, but then that's just me. I think that Matt Damon was good. It would surprise me, but he could win an academy award nomination for his role, however, since I wasn't into the film, it was hard to be objective about any of it. Listen to me after I told you I was able to appreciate the acting in No Country for Old Men - I just couldn't do that with The Informant. We've been away a few weekends so we haven't seen any movies and in fact, nothing that really seemed appealing to both of us has opened lately. I saw Paper Heart and My One and Only myself and plan to see The September Issue tomorrow. Both Paper Heart and The September Issue are art films. My One and Only with Renee Zellweger is more mainstream. Paper Heart was a kind of documentary about what is love - it was light and cute and definitely a chick flick. The Renee Zellweger film was enjoyable but I've seen her in other films where I felt her performance was better. The storyline was supposedly about George Hamilton's life as a teenager - the major role was played by Zellweger as his mother. I cannot say either of these films are a "must see" though. We could discuss movies over coffee if you decide to visit your daughter one day! It would be fun to meet.
