I stongly believe we need meaningful health care reform for our country.  I also believe for meaningful reform to happen, we need a strong and robust public option.  Here is the letter that I have sent to my senators,  President Obama, representative, Pelosi and Reid.  (With slight changes, of course).  I will also write an editorial to my news paper as a senior citizen and small business owner.  Please, read my letter and let me know of additions or changes you think I should make when I write my editorials.  Also, if you agree with me, please feel free to use my letter or ideas to do your part!  Thanks!

I was excited to hear from the President that he will still fight for the public option; I was NOT happy to hear him say that it was not a necessary component of health care reform. I was NOT happy that he stated it was only the very liberal Dems who want single payer, and then he equated that with the very conservative desire to do away with employer-based health insurance. Not so long ago, he supported single payer.

You must fight to include a strong and robust public option in the reform package. Without it, the reform will be weak, and the Dems will have failed to provide REAL reform. Not only will it be bad for the country, the Dems will look weak, once again. The country is sick of the Dems allowing themselves to be manipulated by those opposed to our values.

1. If you mandate coverage, everyone will be forced to buy from the private companies. This is a BIG give away to them. People are very upset about the agreement between the President and the drug companies, and we will be even more upset if we are forced to buy our insurance from the private insurance companies. WE WANT A CHOICE!

2. If Congress relies on regulation only to reform the insurance industry and does not include a strong and robust public option - it will put the American people in a much worse position than we are now. You know that regulation can be reversed or weakened at a later date. If we are still mandated to buy health insurance, and our only option is a newly deregulated private insurance, or a weak alternative (be it co-op or weak public option) - we will be captives of the greedy private insurance industry once again.

3. You know that without serious competition from a public option, insurance prices will not be reduced as much as if there was a STRONG AND ROBUST public option.

Please, your constituents are depending on you to stand firm. Obama has already promised that the reform be deficit neutral. The Blue Dogs, and conservative Dems in the Senate need to understand that they must compromise in this issue. This time true, liberal democrats MUST stand firm! When Obama reminded Americans that liberalism is an honorable thing, and reminded us why Ted Kennedy fought so hard for health care reform, he opened the door for the Democrats to fight for liberal values. You MUST fight for a strong and ROBUST public option!

Respectfully,

Hi JIHF

Thank you for your excellent post.   You can also include many Doctors for they do not want the paperwork, nor to come under Government regulation and pricing!

Yet, right now their Malpractice insurance is costing them an arm and a leg, and many surgeons are not practicing surgery anymore because of this fact.

One would think there should be a cap on Lawsuits which would bring down cost of Malpractice Insurance, not that the Insurance agencies would do that, especially now that those insurance prices have been established!

Now, while Republicans want to defeat Health Care Reform to help bring down the Administration, there are other Republicans as well as some Democrats who don't believe these health care bills can work mainly because of our deficit!

The only way for a bill to pass is by compromise, whether we like it or not.    However, I still feel Public Option should be included, whatever the case!

One thing to keep in mind that during FDR's Presidency, the Republicans were against Social Security and Medicare, yet would most of those Republicans who are on Social Security and Medicare, want to give up their benefits?    Shelby

Hi Jihf,

I didn't see Frank Schaeffer on Rachel Maddow's website, but instead she featured what happened at this Insurance Health Conference, and it was a riot!     Shelby

Hi Kay,

Your correct, there has always be fear of change, but little will be accomplished if we can't ease those fears.

Mostly Republicans, are trying their best to perpetuate them because of their own agenda about bringing down the President, and taking back power in the mid-term elections.

I thought you might be especially interested in this website below, and make it a great weekend!  Shelby

Thank you, Jihf, but I didn't take the photo. I loved it, tho' so downloaded it.

There is a whole lot of info in those links...way too much to mention here but a good place to browse around and learn a lot. I've been there a couple of times since receiving the e-mail.

Hi, Shelby. Go look at the HR3200 Support List, if you haven't already, and the answer is IMHO, the huge drug manufacturers, insurance companies, etc. that are NOT in that 3 page list.  Those, in the know, are!!!  They have owned many elected senators, congressmen, etc. for years. Their money does the talking.

I'm just an ole country gal but I know bull manure when I see it and I've seen it all thru the years when there have been attempts to reform healthcare.  Now, we have the opportunity to support our government, and hope that when the dust settles, it will be better for us soon. Down the road more changes will get made when people get over their fear of change. Don't ya think?

HI Kay,

It's soooo bewildering, for I'm seeing Democrats fighting Democrats, as well as Republicans over "Public Option", and it makes me wonder about all the forces in the background who are pushing their buttons for their own self-interest????  What don't I understand?   Shelby
