Even liberal proponents of health care legislation are "appalled" at the lengths the this administration is willing to go to qyickly shove a universal health care bill through Congress. In his current blog Robert Reich writes: "Last week, after being reported in the Los Angeles Times, the White House confirmed it has promised Big Pharma that any healthcare legislation will bar the government from using its huge purchasing power to negotiate lower drug prices." "Let me remind you: Any bonanza for the drug industry means higher health-care costs for the rest of us, which is one reason why critics of the emerging healthcare plans, including the Congressional Budget Office, are so worried about their failure to adequately stem future healthcare costs." Source: http://robertreich.blogspot.com/2009/08/white-houses-deal-with-big-pharma.html Guess I'm going to need to report former Secretary Reich to the White House for his "fishy talk." |

Hi Again Terri,
Sorry I didn't realize I had replied to you other post before, as I had a duplicate message from you within my message center.
This post is not combative like the other, and I must say I liked it very much, whether I agree or not. You had much to say, and I will reread your post over the weekend when I'm wider awake.
I worked a full day, and I was trying to catch up on my replies, for I was that much behind! Shelby
Hi Terri,
Thank you for your post. I'm willing to listen and learn. With the people that you knew from Canada, were you speaking of elective surgery or emergency surgery. How needed was the surgery at that time?
People who are well off, would rather pay the price, and get it done sooner. I would if I were in that position. What I would like to know if this would this be an option, as this plan would be different than Canada's?
We can't accept what we hear over radio, TV or the Internet. They are all working to further their own agenda, or political persuation. Terri, I would really like to see the newly proposed bill and see if it says that people will be fined if they don't have some kind of insurance.
Terri, there are many fallacies being spread around, because I heard the President say, that this health plan was NOT designed to cover illegal aliens, and it has not even been discussed. He was then asked a question about coverage for these people in a clinic. He said, that if they needed critical medical care, of course who would deny them care, as that would be the humane thing to do. He then gave an example. If an illegal child had a contagious illness, would you want that child around your child in school playing?
Terri, I agree with you that English should be a required language, as this would help immigrants assimilate into our American way of life before becoming citizens, if this would be their choosing. Otherwise they should be hear on work visas, where we know where they were living at all times!
I do believe in care for Illegals, but certainly not the same coverage as we get. This has been a contributing factor and especially work, in encouraging illegal aliens to come across our borders in such large numbers. However, if we were in their positions, might we not think the same? We all would want better lives for our families!
Teri, you have seen real abuses of the system, and I can well understand how frustrating it is. However I have to tell you that if anyone was hit by a car, I also feel the humane thing to do would be to treat them. Terri, I'm sure you wouldn't want them to die. How would you have handled it? Just think about this, it probably was an ambulance chasing attorney who influenced these poor Mexicans to sue in the first place.
I feel when you see abuses of the system, it's hard for you to focus on all the extremely hard working immigrants who should be here under Work Visa's instead. What I don't like is that when pregnant immigrants come into our Country, the baby becomes a citizen of this country. I feel if this is still going on, it should be stopped!
So Terri, we have areas where we agree, and other areas where we disagree, and that's fine. Perhaps we can eventually get a fuller prespective of the problem through each others eyes. Have a good week, and talk to you soon! Shelby
“AARP, Losing Members Over Health Care, Faces Challenge From Grassroots Senior Advocacy Group”
For a number of years now AARP officials have expoused views far to the left of my own so I've been looking for a less liberal organization that represents seniors. I think I'll try the ASA. They are currently offering an extra year free when you join and send in your torn AARP card. Goodbye AARP!
Hi, well I have had the opposite exsperience. My husband grew up in Washington State, and parents retired in TX. While they lived up north and worked in their state and Montana they met hundreds of people from Canada who come here to the US for medical care. The wait for care is way too long.My husband's family has long time good friends from Canada. About seven years ago one of their friends stopped by to see them in TX,we were there visiting. They came to visit because they were coming to the states to get medical care, because it is so bad up there. He needed medical care and his wife a dentist.
As for the illegals,Germany does'nt have as much of a problem because they are stricter about it. Italy has a large problem ,and protests because people are losing their jobs????? Canada makes it manatory that anyone who comes there learn the language!!!! The state pays for it!!! Here they come in by the thousands, our goverment ignors the problem. The other countries are not catering to them. They drain our medicare, and other social services,it cost millions to have special classes to teach them because they don't want to learn the language like other people who have come here from other countries. And here the schools are giving even second graders a bad time making them learn Spanish. They live here all their lives and never pay a penny in tax, I can give you many examples from just my job and my husbands. We pay all their bills.Even now in the new health care reform bill, part of it is saying that people will be fined if they don't have some kind of insurance,oh but not the illegals !!!! Guess who is still footing the bill??? They will not be required to have Ins. though they will be covered, and they won't be fined!!!! See it all comes down to what one illegal said at our Chamber of commerce building last year "My goverment pays me to come here and your goverment pays me to stay". I met a man who is in his 50's in TX,he is a illegal and is a millionaire a second time over from buying property with cash!! Americans have suffered for this country and they should get the brakes, but no, we are giving illegals everything,to the point that they are sueing Americans left and right!! How is it that an illegal living out west here, got hit by car,the hospital paid out millions to save him,ok. There was no family to be found,so they sent him to a nursing home. When family was found in another country, we paid for a large plan to fly him home, all of it cost millions. Well what do you know, the family complained!!! They said we didn't get him home fast enough,so they sued the US!! Thank God for once the jury had sense and said no!! But many, like ranchers in Arizona ,have lost their land to illegals. There is no reason (except corruption) in ....for all this to go on. All people should obey the same laws.We will become a third world country if we don't stop all this. Americans are mad, illegals are not arrested ,they are let go to do more crime, and or we are paying for millions in the prisons. And I won't even get into the gang situation which our own goverment says is the worst to hit the US,even worse than any mofia!
Frustrated

Hi Terri,
I appreciate your opinion. The illegal immigrant problem is prevalent all over the world including Europe and Canada, and their Citizens are concerned over the very same issues!
Terri, we have many Canadian Visitors, because I live in a Tourist area on the West Coast of Florida where many Canadians live part of the year, and others visit.
When I talk to those Canadian about their health care, while not perfect, they insist, they still wouldn't trade their system for ours, even though they pay higher taxes to help support such a system!
In fact, many who love my area, will not even think about applying for citizenship. Instead they go home ever year, because they don't want to give up their benefits!
Even when they have a medical problem, they will fly home early, or in the middle of their vacation just to take care of it in Canada where they reside!
Terri, I would like us focus on the pros of all these plans, and then eliminate the negatives, to come up with a wonderful system for our own country. I also would like to hear about the type of system they have in Scandinavia, because they are so progressive.
You have to understand I have seen too many of our citizens without health insurance, because they either can't afford it, nor qualify. We have people going broke, because they can't pay their medical expenses. This too has to stop! Shelby
I read your note, yes aarp is supposed to be representing our seniors, but I and many others are a little disappointed w/ aarp. Why when you talk to someone in charge of possible fraud as I did, they are very apathetic. And why is it so hard for people to understand that our medical cost are out of controll because we have millions of people here who dont have ins.& dont pay into the system by way of taxes. Think about it, just suppose that you live in Brownsville,Tx.and you work in a hospital there. Now you have hundreds of illegals coming in to the ER,admitted to the hospital, having babies. Tell me who is paying the bill? You is paying the doctors and nurses?? No one, and or Medicare.Just there millions of dollars and guess what, the hospital goes under and has to close!! Even worse hardly anyone hears about it, 2002' . Recently some in New Mexico closed????? This is happening all over, and medicare is paying where it shouldn't all over. Open your eyes, simple math tells you that we who have lived here for generations and our fathers and relatives died for this country are being told because no one will stop the millions coming in from many countries, well your quality of life and medical care is going to be crap. Have seen the news lately on the lady here is the states who was told that she needed a pill that cost 4000$ or she will die. Her ins. co.said no,after a big stink, they gave in but it was too late, she died. What if that was your relative. It happens in England all the time. EVen the English news is saying that they don't understand why the U.S would want to do something when it does'nt work. It is simple, stop the millions coming in ,visa's for people from Peru to clean houses,do construction when our citizens are out of work????? Stop it all, weed out the bad ones, stop any more coming in give our country a chance to fix it's problems ,make everyone pay in,medicare, social sec.,& taxes.
And to end this, they are always saying the people are behind us,this is what the people want, that is so others will follow. The polls show and when you talk to people all over ,shows it is not what the people want,!!!!!!! Not amnesty ,not socialized health care ........
Still frustrated!
I was with you on your comments until I went to your profile and saw NOTHING! Yes, I think in order to be credible you have to be real and transparent. Now I am only wondering...
Thanks for the info. You are very correct and thanks again. I do not trust Our new president due to some of his horrible statements, and etc., regarding ill childern who have problems. And his tone, his push to cause our programs we do have now, to fail. I do not want doctors being told told put the elderly or children, or anyone down as if we are worth less than a pet, we own, and my 2 babies, my cats are my kids, at my age now. I just have this gut feeling we are all going to pay a dear price for so called health care. In many ways. I went to England years ago, and what I saw happening to all the people, due to this same kind of program, made me throw up. I mean I got so sick I just could not stand the horror.
