A health report in the January & February 2009 issue of AARP The Magazine looks at alternative treatments that work on chronic pain, including movement-based therapies (yoga and Feldenkrais), mind-body medicine (meditation and guided imagery), and energy healing (acupuncture and chigong). How have you coped with chronic pain? Have you had success with drug-free remedies? Share your experiences here.

I’ve had GREAT success with Flexable Glucosamine and Chondroitin Orange Drink Mix for the removal of ALL joint pain symptoms due to arthritis and an under active thyroid for the last 15 years!

This product has beentaken off the market due to lack of sales.  The stuff really works but it has been disappearing from Walmart and Walgreen’s shelves and now they will stop production entirely unless we show a NEED.

We need to contact the manufacturing company Amerifit at  800-722-3476 Ext.209 and express the continued need for this product or it will GO AWAY forever!

My Friend, I am a 100% disabled veteran.  I say this not to illicit sympathy, as that will get us nowhere but to let you know that I am there!  Each of us has our own battle to overcome, and those who don't give up will.  I have no idea what causes your pain but mine was caused by ejecting from an F-4 Phantom jet fighter in 1967.  My spine, especially my cervical spine, became instant disaster areas after ar a 21 G ejection (22 Gs will break your spine).

I have found temporary (since there is no permanant) relief in "radio freguency" treatments from a Dr. that is Board Certified in in pain management.  Sooner or later we will all become "space cadets" just to kill the pain.  May God bless yoy and yours (if thre is one).

I've been in daily chronic pain for 7 years after an elderly driver slammed into my car twice causing a double whiplash injury and an irretrievably damaged jaw and spine. I was advised by my attorney to stick to traditional, Western medical treatments to not threaten the success of the lawsuit. Lawsuit now over for several years so have spent the time since then trying to undo the damage traditional treatments afforded me - mainly a physical addiction to oxycontin that no longer works for me and psychological issues from the anti-depressants and bi-polar medications I was told to take to function normally (i.e. being able to make it through a workday without crying or yelling at someone). Current Dr. put me on liquid methadone this summer to get off the oxycontin and it almost killed me, the side effect of mental confusion led to a near fatal overdose. Was told any local ER would accept me and detox me which was not true - was refused admission and went home ready to drink the whole bottle and end it. At the depths of this misery I realized I was stronger than all of it, disgusted with it affecting my life, marriage and friendships, finances and tired of feeling like a victim. Went off everything cold turkey, saw an acupuncturist that is helping with the digestive issues, sweating, sleeplessness, etc. common with detoxing. Still in the middle of it but feeling stronger everyday. Will not consider opiates again, **** that the gov't is ignoring marijuana for medical use as it was the only thing that offered some relief with the methadone poisoning. Pot and distractions such as gardening, studying and friends are the only things that have proven to work for me. I believe all the years of anger and frustration in this situation only made me sicker; the unfairness, the pain not going away, the dismissiveness of medical professionals and tangles of the legal and insurance system - went through it all and refuse to go there again. If I could I'd move to Amsterdam to get some relief and move on with my life; it was the legal system and legal drugs that almost killed me, not some rolled up green weed.

I have had bad chronic pain for almost 10 years,  I am still able and blessed to have a job. I found a doctor in m my church who belives in effective pain management and that people should not have to suffer from strong physical pain. This doc uses oxycontin exclusively in his practice, because it , if taken properly ,can give relief from pain. It really helps, what can I say, I have bad cervical stenosis and a bad sacral disc, plus other issues. I still use my traction machine ,provided by my former insurance company.

I have heard of a new medicine called Saboxen which is supposed to give good pain relief and also takes away the cravings of opiate dependent folk.  During the ten years, a couple of times, other meds were tried, but I have tried to just take the oxycontin for pain and use other scripts for what they are there for, plus I take vitamins, Omega 3 and watch my diet, working on this one.  There is such a stigma for people who use strong pain medication, I used to use Ansaids, but they ruined my stomach and gave me gerd. I only wish they would invent one that did not make you tired.

     God bless,

                     J

I'm sending along good wishes for success.   It is important to have an open mind because this may strike you as a really different approach to pain management after what you have been through, but my experience was good and I wish the same for you.
