 HI

this is my first time ever to be a part of an online group so bear with me please.  I am 54 and wondering if anyone has returned to college to finish their degree at this point in life and if anyone has tried online education.

It's great to have you on board.  As you'll soon discover, many people are returning to college at 50+.  You're not alone!  There's no cap on learning - it's a lifelong process.  Please see the profiles for "katcov" and "stef" - two AARP My Dream Job Contest Winners who went back to school at 50+ to retool for their dream job.  Each of their profiles can be found on The Water Cooler.  Their experiences and advice may be of interest and help.

You've raised a great question about online education.  While I don't have any personal experience with this, some of my friends and colleagues have done so and their experiences have been varied.  One piece of advice that they all have shared on the topic is about the importance of vetting. 

Before you sign up for an online educational program, be sure to assess the credibility of a particular institution and your potential course instructor.  You can check the Web for online training "vetting checklist" resources to assist with this process.  While solid online programs and instructors can be found, a number of duds exist as well.  It's your time and money - your investment should be worth what you get out of the program.

One more suggestion:  consider posting your question on the Water Cooler community group.  Members may have an interest in this topic and advice to share.
