edited on February 4, 2009 04:01 PM ET Baseball season is upon us and training camps will soon be bustling with activity. Are you seeking a job after having taken some time away from the workforce? What fears and anxieties do you have about getting back into the swing of employment? What steps are you taking to tweak your resume and brush up on your interview skills? |

I have the distinct advantage of being one of the 'My Dream Job' winners and have the services of a career counselor, Bob. We have begun to review my resume to highlight not only my education, but to review the experiences of my lifetime to hone in on those that may translate into desirable qualifications for my chosen paralegal 'dream job'. If you have read my journals, you know that I am currently a student.. As part of a Paralegal Career Portfolio Class at Lansing Community College, I had the opportunity to watch videos of interviewing skills and to actually have a 'mock interview' with a paralegal from a local law firm. After the interview, my performance was critiqued and I was given helpful suggestions to improve my interviewing skills. This semester, I am enrolled as an intern with a local law office. I was required to submit a resume and cover letter and be interviewed for the internship. One valuable interview tool that I assembled for the portfolio class is an actual portfolio of work, such as documents that I drafted for the legal classes that I completed. I was able to show samples of my work during my interviews. I plan on using my portfolio in future interviews.
