I have learned that too much cholestorol can be not only trouble for the heart, but I found out that either that or plain overweightness can cause cancer. What types can it cause? I don't smoke which that part is good. |

Thank you for your post. Yes, as an overweight person since the age of 4 probably, most every health problem I've ever had has led someone to say it is because I am overweight. It is bad enough to have cancer without having someone imply that you brought it upon yourself by eating wrong. I exercise 4-5 times a week and am more fit than some thin people. I know that I often make 'bad' food choices. I also know that my body has a weird metablolic system. I do the best I can with what I've got.
There are many people who have bad health habits. The thing is the over weight person is totally visable. We are right there for people to judge.

Shame on them for their "implication". Being overweight is being blamed for so many things, it's the guilt trip du jour. If someone decides to lose weight, good for them. If they decide to quit eating red meats, good for them. If they decide to start running marathons, good for them. Perhaps, next month or next year all of those things will be proven to cause cancer.
No, I am not overweight. Never have been. But I have had many friends that were. Some were very healthy with lower blood pressure than mine, great heart beat rate, etc. Some got cancer, most did not. I've met people that lived the most healthy life style, eating nothing but fruit, veggies, nuts, legumes, never touching alcohol or caffine or smoking and they're stage IV victims. We do NOT know what causes most cancers and all these implications only give someone ammunition to brow beat someone else.
Just remember, we're all born with a terminal illness called life and we will all die!
I read that there were even studies on cancer and underwire bras and if there is a link. They said no, but implied heavier women wear under wire bras.

I've not heard of a connection between cholestrol and cancer but being overweight may cause colon, esophagal or kidney cancer. The key word here is "may". Research is moving forward on what lifestyle, food and physical exercise can do or not do to protect one from cancers, but the findings seem to change quite regularly.
I find that most lifestyle change suggestions are used by those without cancer to lay guilt trips on those of us that do have cancer and it makes me quite sad. If science finds out that eating bacon for breakfast or a glass of milk each morning is what caused breast cancer, what is a person to do? It's not as though they can go back and change what they did as children and blaming their mother would be equally unproductive.
We've all been taught that eating healthy, excercising and not being overweight is the best advise to follow. If we all do that and the rates of cancer decline by a measureable amount, the next generation will be the biggest benefactors. For now, we can only do the best we can with the informatin we have to stay or get healthy. There is no "magic bullet".
