Day of Service
Once again, AARP staff and volunteers completed a variety of hands-on educational and direct-service projects that benefited the elderly, the disabled, and other vulnerable populations. This fall, our Day of Service 2009 projects will range from repairing and rehabilitating homes of seniors and people with disabilities to sorting clothing, assembling care packages, and packing food baskets. But you don't need to wait for the Day of Service to join! You too can support this year's Day of Service by volunteering at a local organization or by helping an elderly or homebound neighbor with basic chores and errands. Lewisville, Texas Chapter #950 collected essentials during April and May for the troops in Iraq.  We gathered treats (gum, dried fruit, popcorn, beef jerky, drink mixes, seasonings, soup mixes, cookies, and candy), personal health products ( insect repellents, sunscreen, shampoo, toilet articles, toothbrushes, dental floss, bars of soap, deodorants, baby powder, kleenex, and razors) and games (puzzles, decks of cards).  Our successful venture filled six boxes which we shipped to an American Armed Services member stationed in Iraq.  Go U.S.A. Troops!!!

That is wonderful.  As this situation goes on and on some of us may forget to send care packages.  Others do not have anyone to send them a care package.  I know your gift will be cherished!!!
