Hi everyone my name is Carol and I am a very young Grandmother. I am 41 and my Grandson is 10. I am originaly from Cali but reside here in Ma. My daughter was 14 when he was born and she was NOT the motherly type and they didn't bond. To make a long story short my grandson came here for Christmas I paid ROUNTRIP for him to come out here and I was NOT too happy with how my daughter was treating him and I didn't like that he missed 100 days of school and was a built babysitter for my 4 yr old grand daughter who was 3 and he was 9 at the time.I called Child protective services in Cali so they could investigate how my daughter was rasing him. So anyhow there was alot and then she called me in June saying she needed a break from him so I FLEW him out here 1 way and then the battle began! I sent the her paperwork in a Overnight envelope that I PAID for, I sent her the MONEY to get the papers NOTORIZED and after 3 weeks NOTHING! I told my mother that if she didn't have the papers sign so I can get him started in school then I would call her worker to possibly help me. My OWN mother told my daughter what I said and the war began!! She lied and told the social worker that I kidnapped him and they laughed at that story BECAUSE she signed for him to fly as a Unaccompined (sp) minor. She began lying on me saying he was only staying for the summer etc...Then me and the social worker got into it and I told her that she wanted him to live me with so this has been one hell of a summer. Eventually I started talking to the social worker and she spoke to my grandson lots of times and started believing that my daughter was a constant liar. She told me that she believes that my Grandson would be better off with me! She told the social worker that he can live in MA with me and my other kids. My daughter NEVER sent the papers for him BUT he has been enrolled in school since Aug 30th! In MA school comes first now mind you I have NOTHING no birth certficate, no shot records nothing. I do have my court docket number showing them that I am in the process for filing for guardianship and that after 30 days of NO contact it is considered abandoment.He was enrolled in school mmediately and my heart just warmed all over. We have NOT heard from my daughter since the end of July. My grandson dosen't ask about her and she dosen't call for him either. It' sooo sad when the courtsor social workers don't take into account how the KIDS feel. Don't we have rights? I have 2 court dates one on Wed the 16th and the last one Oct 5th. I will fight tooth and nail for him because he wants to live with us and he NEEDS to be in school and to be a child! Sorry it's so long I just needed to vent. I have my 3 kids here 20, 16 and 14 and my grandbaby is 10. I am a single mother with osteoarthritis who is working 40 hours a week. I get up at 4am and get off at 2 pm and I pick him up at 3:30 I have a busy life then bak on the bus to go home and lay down and homework time lol. I am glad that there is a forum just for us. I know that I am young sorry bought that BUT im still a Grandmother too :-) |

I am new to the group too. Actually this is first first reply. I have had term. custody since May 2008. My Grandson is 27onths old. He has lived with me since he was 2 months. My daughter has always did what she wanted at that moment and expected no consequences. I have put up with alot from her but when she had no remorse for the fact she brought an innocent child into this world and acted like he was a doll to take off the shelve and play with when she wanted to play . He bounded with me because I was the one taking care of his needs and showing him attendtion. Now after all this time she has decided she is a good mom and wants him back so she has filed for custody to be returned to her. This a mother( she is 25 by the way) that 3 weeks ago forgot it was her nite for visitation. I love my daughter but she is not a good mother, she has never been a mother to him. I dont know how much money I have spent because of this situation she has put us in. The childs father gave up his rights when the baby was a few months old. I paid those legal bills too. To me and my husband the baby's safety comes first.

Congratulations, Carol! Your story had me so worried for your grandson. I'm glad I checked back and saw your update. I hope everything continues to go well for you.

You are so welcome and GOD knows just what he's doing! Just thank him in ADVANCE that everything will be fine and BELIEVE it! He does answer prayers BUT are you willing to let him? Just let GO and let GOD (((HUGZ))) I wish you the best...
Thanks for the reply. I am glad things worked out for you. Pray for us and send some angels in our direction. I am so afraid of making a mistake and the courts taking her back. Sometimes I don't know which direction to go in. I pray everyday that GOD knows what he is doing. Thanks for the input...

Well I know this is a late post BUT I did get FULL and PERMANENT Guardianship of my Grandson!!!
On Oct 5th it was granted. Now he has Medical coverage, I have a copy of his Birth Certificate, his social security card he has EVERYTHING he needs to start out in life!! I am so Thankful and so grateful that God has gave him to me! I always say that GOD don't make mistakes! I wish everyone who is going through something with the courts to keep on going don't give up! It might seem difficult and I was blessed to have Angels all around me in The Family and Probabte court those ladies over there were TRUE blessings. Just keep going and FOLLOW your heart.....

Good luck to you. Glad to hear there is another young granmother out there. Sorry to anyone over 40. Am still trying to network to find groups in my area to connect with for support/ideas. Coming up empty. I am trying my best to be motivated but it can be difficult. Glad to hear there are others doing the same. Vent anytime you need to get it out.
Aww Thanks so much and I don't have a lawyer I have 5 people on my one income and my son's ssi check. I am doing the best I can I go before the judge on Wed on alternative ways to get my daughter served in Cali. The sheriff's dpt out there don't serve out of state court papers so I have to ask the judge for an alternative method of getting her served. I truly appreciate the prayers as I need them always....
