When are doing on-line job searches, do them at night or early in the moring. This gives you more hours to connect via networking. Here in the Portland area you might have to meet over 250 people to land an opportunity. It's all in the numbers.
You are so right Careers2009!
The Job Council provides workforce resources to businesses, youth and adults throughout Jackson and Josephine counties. Their website has a rather extensive list of links to help in your job search, particularly if you live in Southwestern Oregon.
Here's a link to the Job Council's website:
Just bear in mind, on average, 2-5% of career seekers nationwide find their next position on the Internet. You are competing with everyone in the country, if not the world for these positions. Some of which do not even exist. If you are spending over 2-hours daily on the Internet looking for work you are fishing in the wrong pond.
Your best odds for find the perfect career positon is by networking with the people you want to work with. Last year 40% of managers that were hired found their position via networking. That being via professional associations, social clubs, church groups, chamber of commerce meetings, Toastmasters, and so on.
Rememeber, it's not who you know, but who knows you. Get out there and meet people, and have fun doing it!
Sorry for the small print on the original post! Here are those links again, just a bit larger this time:
