In Joshua 4 there is a verse that tells about how God told Joshua to pile up river rocks from the Jordan River.  Joshua's stones were to remind the Israelites of God's  faithfulness and to cause curiosity in others.

Last summer I had some cats and kittens plants that grow anywhere even on a rocky surface, I had them planted in an old sneaker, but decided to pile up stones, put in a little dirt and let them flourish there which they did.  I was surprised to see that people all over the country were piling up stones, as I read this in a newspaper article.  On a beach in Maine a father and son piled up stones to have a memorial to the other son who had passed away.

I just read about this verse in Joshua and thought how fitting to do this to remember God's faithfulness.

There is a woman who makes Christian jewelry from stones with the words, Behold, Believe, Hope, Joy, Faith, Laugh, Love, Pray, and Trust.  It reminds me of the Bible verse that says even the stones will glorify God.

Have you heard of this verse about piling up stones to remind us of God's faithfulness?

Wonderful Chuck that you did all this research!  I think we learned a whole lot today about rocks and stones from the Bible.

Another way of using stones that Jesus condemned when He showed the people that all are sinners and if this woman was stoned then all should be stoned.  Not one of us is without sin, and He taught that stoning was wrong.

The Big Stone of Granite reminds me of How Majestic God must Be if this is a peeble in His creation here on this earth.  Look at all the huge mountain ranges, the Rockie's are magnificent, and I can't even imagine the Andes in South America and that's just a couple on this continent.  One Day we'll see him in His Glory , that's what I call a future.....Thanks for your comments....God Bless.........Ric

Amazing it's a small world, the mountain is within 5 miles of my home if it were not for the heavy forestation around me (which i really enjoy) I Could look at the mountain from anywhere on my property.  I used to climb Arabia Mountain daily for exercise, it's a series of three smaller foothills in Lithonia.  It is now a State Park along with the other large foothill Panola Mountain on the Yellow River also now a wonderful park with hiking trails to observe butterflies and other forest birds and creatures, that make the granite hills their home.  When I was more mobile I really enjoyed the parks around the mountains.  So you know about how majestic that big rock is.

Thanks for sharing your memories with us Stephanie, .......Ric

My friend ~ Stone Mountain is another of God's majestic creations.  My Grandfather was born and grew up in Stone Mountain.  We lived in Atlanta many years ago and spent many days with our children at Stone Mountain.  May God Bless.  Jan
