The Pins are In!

Vegas@50+ has 12 official 2009 Event pins this year. Over the next few months, we will identify the exclusive locations where you can find each of this year’s pins. Plan out your strategy to acquire the full set of these limited edition pins!

Which one do you think will be the “HOT” pin this year?

 Oh yeah!

Vic would be hard to get, unless one were actually a volunteer<G>. People rushed up to us all the time asking if we had any, but each of us only had six to give out, and sometimes they went really quickly.

Did you wind up with a complete set? I know Will did, but never really discussed it with any other of you. I have to say that I really liked every one of you from National whose paths I crossed and more than once I got to see you go above and beyond. Kudos to all!

When are you coming back to LV? Before 2013?

Good afternoon!

I think I've recovered from a fantastic even in Las Vegas!  Thank you everyone who participated in the event in one way or another - as an attendee, volunteer, observer, or exhibitor!

ThoseEyes - you've asked the magic question.  Which pin was THE pin for the event?  I think that will depend on who you talk to.  I heard from more than a few sources that the Vegas Vic pin the Volunteers were handing out was a hot item.  I also heard from a handful of people asking for the Elvis pin.

There were many different distribution channels, so that may have factored into how many of any one pin were in circulation.

See you in Orlando!

It was in the daily newspaper too.

But people were more than willing to tell you where they got something, and how to find it. In fact, the whole thing is really more about getting people to interact with each other than some sort of competition to collect them. I didn't actually go looking for any of them until the last day. I went to the Jamaica booth for the golf pin, and someone there told me where some others were. One woman at one booth had the list and was so nice I went through my pockets to help her with her collection. That sort of thing happened a lot.

OK Mitch, now that the smoke has cleared, which pin was the "hot" one?

Hi everybody!

JustCeleste -- The answers to some of your questions can be found in some of the previous posts to this thread. The pins are always something representative of and unique to the destination where the event is held. For example, last year in DC our pins were the Lincoln Memorial, US Capitol, Iwo Jima Memorial, Washington Monument, Cherry Blossom, a panda, and an event logo pin. We have also expanded the Pin Program to other events similar to our National Event. When we were in Puerto Rico for Feria de la Segunda Juventud in 2008, we created three pins: the event logo/sun, the coqui (a small frog native to Puerto Rico and which serves as it’s unofficial territorial symbol), and the garitas (dome-covered sentry boxes, another cultural symbol of Puerto Rico).

We also don't know which pin will be "hot" until we get onsite and hear which one is requested most often.

There is no prize for collecting all of the 12 pins – other than the personal satisfaction of having a complete set! They could be considered collectible in the sense that past attendees would be interested in having complete sets for each show that they attended. The pins also won’t be produced again – what we order is all there is!

Kathie -- While we are still establishing a distribution method/point for the 12th pin, the following pins can be found at the following locations or from the following event teams:

Las Vegas Skyline – AARP Financial, Inc. – Booth # AARP Pavilion

Aces – AARP Health – Booth # AARP Pavilion

     Las Vegas Sign – Walgreens – Booth # 2314

Dancing – AARP Pavilion Team – AARP Staff in the AARP Pavilion (but not AARP Financial, Inc. nor AARP Health)

     Elvis – UnitedHealth Group – Booth # 1611

     Golf – Jamaica Tourist Board – Booth # 2008

Piano – National Association of Music Merchants – Booth # 742

     Shopping – Quidel Corporation – Booth # 1233

Acrobat – Stay Tuned! It is currently unassigned. You know we have to have you come back! ;)

Headdress – National Event Team – Roaming AARP Staff in all areas of the event; identifiable by the red Event polo shirts (they are not staffing the AARP Pavilion booths - you'll see them in the AARP Theatre, session rooms, registration, and all points in-between)

Magician – Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health – Booth # 1330

Vegas Vic – AARP Nevada Volunteers – Roaming AARP Nevada Volunteers in all areas of the event; identifiable by the red Event t-shirts

For the exact locations of the booths, please visit our interactive event experience by clicking here.  From there, you can click on "Show Pins" at the right-hand side of the main screen and discover where the booths are located.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the 12th pin!  I’ll see you in Vegas!

Is there a prize invovled? What do the pins represent? I'm writing a story.  How did the ideal evolve? Can you give me some more history about this?
