Staying Fit After 50
Staying fit after 50 is so difficult, and menopause doesn;t help matters. I have just recently lost 25 pounds, and really hope to keep it off. Look forwar to having anyone in my group with ideas on how to stay fit, and eat right , regardless of this menopause thing, that we women all have to go through.

Greetings to All

Sorry for my long absence, lots to do and computer problems to compound them.

Year round Events keep me busy, since my last post, My wife and I have hiked Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Appomattox.

what a wonderful day of history and hiking.  Williamsburg was our first hike. Started off with an eagle flying over our heads in the parking lot of the starting point. White head and tail made no mistake what kind of large bird it was.

the trail goes down Duke of Glochester street, winds down by the govenors place, back by the visitors center, thru College of William & Mary,  past the First Balloon assent marker, ( in Va anyway) past the First Indian school, and varius other historical places. The only surprise was this was a 11K hike not the usual 10K, funny what an extra K will do when you are tired.

We then traveled to Appomattox (next month) Again what a nice hike. The history was ever present, and even the county motto "Appomattox County, Where a Divided nation became One".  The hills were not overly steep, but you knew they were there by the time you got to the top. Last Artillery round fired in Virginia was at Appomattox, By the Richmond Howitzers (my dads old outfit) You walked past the McClean house the court house, a few odds and ends buildings and past the confederate cemetary, with one union soldier found back in the "fifties" durring  renovation of the grounds.

Yorktown was next. the only problem was there are actually two different hikes, a town hike and a battlefield hike. We decided on the town hike first. The start point was the Visitors center, and went past the Yorktown Monument, down the hill by the river to Cornwallace's cave (where he took refuse durring heavy shelling of the town) also where he fained illness to avoid surrendering to Washington. Past the "Poor Potter" kiln which was recently discovered. Serching for information on the potter, it was discovered in a letter to the Board of trade in London from the Govener of Va, about the "Poor Potter" not being any threat to the Potter's  Guild and the far better product being imported . As a footnote the Poor Potter's ability his clayware has been found as far north as New England, and as far west as the West indies

I thought Jamestown was next, but Jan (my wife) stated that Yorktown was only half done, so returned to the battlefield hike. This time thew start point was the "Surrender Field".  It was a little warm that day so I am glad we took plenty of water, however, a lot of the hike was shaded. From Surrender Field you wind around the British outter earthworks, past Headquarters locations of Washington, Knox, Reuchambeu, and VonStueban, the French Cemetary, and the artillery park. Very nice hike all around

Next hike is Jamestown, will keep you informed.  Highly reccomend hiking , plenty of locations, you can take your time, see things and learn things you never knew or forgot about, and spend quality time with wife/husband  or a friend.   will post picture when i can figure out how, maybe should ask daughter...   have a great day   chuck aka  loves2hike   as always please excuse poor typing and worse spelling.
