If anyone got this crazy message from me I just want to let you know that I did not send it!  Due to what I bleieve are AARP glitches this message showed up in some people's inboxes!

"I?m flattered by your ?Friend Request?, but being a ?Friend? in
Online Community means a lot more than just being ?Friendly?; it means
that you already know the person well thru public posts & private
messages, and trust them to see more personal material designated
?Friends Only? in your Profile. You don?t have to be a ?Friend?
to exchange private messages like this one, and it?s one way to get to
know someone. But the best way to become friends is by being in the
same special interest Groups, and exchanging posts there in public.
Until we actually know each other, I have to decline your ?Friend
Request? for now."

Hi, I have no idea what happened, but it really upset me.  Actually I had problems with accessing AARP for several days and that is when this message went out to people.  Does not make sense.  I wrote to AARP but all I got was the automated response.

Thanks for the response!  Have a great day!

You may have accidentally clicked on the "Ask Friends to Join" icon.  Or like you say,  it probably was just an AARP glitch.
