I have lots of "little stuff" - I AM not sure of what to sell, what to save, what to give, what to throw - what? what? what?

I AM not into high-cost/high-tech antiques - just little odds 'n ends.

I would love to find someone in my area to help me to throw, save, give and sell - so that I can get out there and get me some more.  Ha. Ha.  If not in my neighborhood, I'll be glad to have some on-line infos from knowledgeable folks.

Thanks for taking time to read my post.

yah, i'm finding that out.  i gave a friend of mine some things to sell at a flea market.  things that i thought would sell, things that i know used to sell.

i'm hoping the antique store route works as i'm sure they have contact with other shops, dealers, etc.

thanks for the welcome and the input.

jontue,

Welcome to the Group.

I buy a certain type of glass on eBay and here's what I've noticed recently. Unlike a couple of years ago, there are a lot more sellers on here than there are buyers. While there are some serious auctions and big prices for some rare, hard to find items, for most things us buyers can get really good pieces of glass at really low prices. This is not a good time to be selling your treasures on eBay- I think. The antique shop- consignment route sounds like a really good plan.:-)

just new to the group as of well, right now.  i have the same dilemma.  it's time to clear out the clutter.  i'm saving only things that stir my soul, have memories attached.  not sure what to do with the rest.  depression glass, cobalt, cranberry glass.  my mother collected salt and pepper shakers.  also a stereoscope in from what i can tell in perfect condition along with cards for it.  i have seen what they could be worth.  just don't quite know where to unload this stuff and i won't let it go for next to nothing.

one thing that i want to check out is a local antique store which is something you could do as well.  i think mine buys things on consignment, or one can set up their own little area.  i'm hoping maybe they will buy the stuff outright.  i don't "get" ebay and those types of selling places, plus i think it would be too time consuming to do that.

good luck to both of us :)

I have "STUFF" too.  Most of what I have was purchased on trips with the motor home. Some family pieces.  I have a piano stool, the kind I used to sit on and turn around on until it almost fell off (when i was a kid).  Some 3-foot tall carvings made by a German artist.  They were carved from a single tree trunk.  A set of Smith canisters, the bright orange glass.  A few pieces of dinnerware that was brought from Germany in the 1800's.  Not perfect.  A couple Carnival Glass pieces. Some 1928 Needlecraft Magazines and STUFF like that.  The one thing I had saved (AND CAN'T FIND NOW) is a copy of the Comic Strip from 1939.  It was under the linoleum of the cabin we bought.  I was going to frame it and hang it on my den wall with my picture of Little Orphan Annie.  Oh well, it will turn up some day, hopefully.  My Daddy used to read those comics to me every Sunday after church. And we would listen to Little Orphan Annie on the old Philco radio.

Since I just lost the love of my life, I have been looking at STUFF and wondering why I need some of it.  Our kids aren't interested in it.  They aren't the "oldies-type" if you know what I mean. I am not rushing into getting rid of anything, it's just that I am at a real loss right now and can't get my act together.  I cleaned out one of my dresser drawers and ran across my Daddy's watch-fob.  I think it might be gold/plated?  I remember him wearing it with his pocket watch.  And my old Elgin 10K gold watch my aunt sent me when I was confirmed.  She worked in the watch factory in Elgin IL and I wore it until it quit and cost too much to have fixed.  I can only imagine what else I will dig up after living in this house for almost 50 years.

Gotta go, the Poms are getting tired of not getting to play.

Coffee_drinker - Thanks for your reply.  Nice collector's hobby you've found.  I have none of what you collect - but - I have a lot of - mostly memorabilia "stuff" - old Avon bottles, Cosmopolitan magazines, key chains, some beer, cigarette, coca-cola "stuff", costume jewelry - well, that kind of "stuff."  I AM in South Florida.  So, thank you again.  I AM Sue T.

IAMSUET,

I collect Moon & Star pattern glass, and when it came out it was everyday glass. It surely isn't one of the high cost antiques- one that's worth several hundreds or aeveral thousands of dollars each. What kind of stuff do you have that you want to get rid of and about where do you live?
