AARP Daytona recently worked with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the state Department of Financial Services to help Daytona Beach-area residents learn how to avoid fraudulent and ill-advised investments. The forum provided new research by FINRA and AARP which shows some surprising trends in who is victimized by the latest investment frauds. The event was free to the public and lunch was provided. About 200 Daytona-area residents joined John Komoroske of FINRA, AARP Manager of State Operations Jeff Johnson and other AARP staff and volunteers at this successful seminar Oct. 1.

Speakers at the event provided attendees with sound, accurate information and resources to help Floridians 50+ identify risky or fraudulent investment schemes before losing their hard-earned money - especially vital in today’s volatile and sometimes alarming financial markets. The event follows several similar events nationwide as part of a collaboration between AARP, FINRA and state regulatory agencies. For more information, visit the FINRA website, or contact Bill Clark at WClark@aarp.org or at (727) 592-8002. Also, as a member of the online community, you can post your own thoughts on investing and financial security. Voice your opinion and see what others have to say!
