Does anyone have a recommendation on movers and temporary storage?

Bekins Moving Company is the best that I've used so far.  They can pack everything up and store it for you, too.

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, I went with Safeway Van Lines and did not have a good experience.  I thought I would be ok as it was recommended by my realtor and I happened to work years ago with the GM who answered the phone.  Oh well...

Last move my friend recommended a group of marines who do it on the weekend. They came with a pickup and a trailer and were able to move all my things in one trip. They only charge $35/hour with a 3 hour minimum. For two it was only $210 for those three hours. Being they included the truck and trailer it was a steal.

They are not professional movers though. No insurance I imagine luckly my stuff isn't that nice.

Mary, I used Two Guys and a Truck (not to be confused with Two Men and a Truck) to move from Arlington to Alexandria. I'm happy to say it was a relatively painless experience! I've also seen their moving trucks on Extreme Home Makeover, so it's nice to know they have a conscience, too :-)

As for storage, I rented a climate-controlled unit at the Public Storage facility in McLean (the most cost effective after much searching). The facility was a subculture unto itself... I had to sign a waiver that I would not throw any parties or serve any food out of my unit. Given that it had no windows and a bare bulb hanging from the ceiling, the notion of "entertaining" had never crossed my mind...
