I recently got a new computer with vista on it.  I'm using IE7.  I have a 2005 HP V6210 all in one.  The problem is I can fax directly from the HP, but not from the HP Director which I would rather do because I can include a cover page.  After spending countless hours and emails with HP, they've now told me, I need to contact Microsoft which I've tried to do.  Only problem is, Microsoft keeps telling me I've entered my product key in the wrong format (which I dispute), but I can't get any further than that.

So, in a nutshell, can someone help me so I can send a fax from the Director?

Might be problems with printer driver(s) AND Twain (scanner) driver.

I have used both HP and other printers, and usually there are separate drivers for printing, scanning, fax, and other specialized functions in "All-in-One" printers.  As you may know, there are usually different drivers for Vista.

Browse to the HP web site, select Support, then search for your printer model.  The support page for your specific printer should have links for all the drivers and software updates.  There also might be a firmware update for the scanner function of your printer.

Download the latest versions and install them.  Usually it is preferable to install the print driver, reboot, then install the Twain (scanner) driver.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

John

I would suggest you go to windows update, download all the programs pertinent to Vista , and then try to Fax. It would be helpful if you turned on 'automatic update' so you can take advantage of the newest additions to the software.

Success to you----

Do a system restore to a day when all was well.

and/or

Uninstall the printer software  and  then reinstall the printer software.

Add more ram and more Hard disk space and clean your machine

Yes, you are right the Techs who read the "Tips"  board  never read this Board.

Or they obey the rules and never answer on this Board.

this is what I want to do.  I have the generated page, but can't fax from the director because "scanner is not available".  I can fax from glass, but then the pc generated cover page is not available.
