About Me

I live on the coast of Maine. I have a son, 22, who is a computer genius! I also have a daughter, 20, who is passionate about being on the water on boats as much as possible. Her goal is to be a captain. I spent most of my adulthood raising my kids. In fact, just 2 years ago I started working full time for the first time ever. I'm an Employment Specialist for a non-profit mental health agency. My job is to help people with disabilities (of any sort) find jobs. It's a very busy job full of variables and unexpected challenges. While I spend much of my time on the computer and phone in my office, I could just as easily helping a client at their dish washing job at a local restaurant. I spend my weekends walking my dear dog, Tori. I also work on my house and in the yard. There's not much time to do much else! About Tori: I found Tori's picture on PetFinder.org. I wasn't really looking for a dog, but once I saw her picture, I was in love. Reluctantly I called the humane agency where she was and asked if she was still available. I thought it was a long shot because surely someone would have gotten her already. No, she was available. Three days later I drove 100 miles to get my dear girl, though, at the time, I knew nothing about her. When they brought Tori into the visitors room she was only interested in catching bugs/flies on the windows. I learned that a good Samaritan had brought her to the shelter in July. She was on the brink of death weighing only 35# and had very little fur due to a flea infestation. There was absolutely no history on her. For 2.5 months the techs nurtured her to health. She grew a new coat and gained 20#. When I saw her she was still very thin and her fur hadn't fully grown in. I've had her for 4.5 years now. She weighs 67#, sheds twice a year, had a wonderful personality and clearly appreciates having a loving home.

My Journals (1)

Today was typical for a Saturday for me. Tori and I walked to town to get the mail. It's a mile one way to the center of town. My feet became very sore by the time we got back home. My feet problems are becoming significant. Time to get more medical care for them.

It didn't help my feet that I mowed the lawn. I have some very steep areas to mow in the gully by the road. I cannot continue doing this because my feet simply cannot handle the stress. It took me all afternoon to complete all the mowing because I would mow for 20 minutes, rest for 30.

I'm also acutely aware of all the projects and care this house/yard require. I cannot do it alone anymore which makes me sad. I guess it wouldn't be so difficult if I could afford to pay someone to do some of this work for me. But I can't afford it.

The garden is coming along as well. I need to harvest the spinach before it bolts.
