Have you ever wondered what you looked like or sounded like when you were young (er)? I recently came into possession of the home video's I recorded in 1987.. OMG! People forget the camera is there and you hear and see things you never paid any attention to at the time. I saw myself in a whole new light. I never realized just how easy going I really was when the kids were little. Oh sure I screamed a lot like most mothers and there were quite a few "mother looks" that were captured. But over all it was good to see my kids and their friends, (we were the Kool-Aid house). I always thought it was better to have the kids there instead of wondering where they were or what they were doing.

I also saw how happy I was when a grandchild came to my house. My whole demeaner changed and I became a kid talking to another kid. No wonder my grandkids run and yell GRANDMA when they see me. Those were the good ole days for sure. I saw that I made each child feel so special and I became oblivious to anything else that was going on around me. I will call it "tuned out".

What was even more fascinating , was yesterday, when 5 of my daughter's 6 kids were here. We started watching the video's and they saw what their mom was like when she was 12-14 yrs old. They laughed of course, at the silly things she did and said, but then they  saw her do gymnastics, ride a unicycle and how much she laughed with her friends, I do believe it made an impression on them. Mom was a real person, not just mom or the lady who has to tell them when they are doing something wrong.

Sometimes I think about things and wonder if I was a good mother and what kind of mistakes I made with my kids. Did I show them I loved them enough or hugged them enough, and I think sure I was a good mother, then one of the kids will come in and say "geez, I wish you could have been my grandmother instead of my mother"  Geesch!

I really can't wait to get to the movie's from 1989-1994.. Don't know what happened to that video camera or why we stopped recording, but I'm sure glad we recorded some of our history. I am going to find out if I can have them made into CD's.

I never do this. I never leave exactly the same message to each one of my friends but I'm going to do it today. In the last month I have heard of two friends who have experienced a TIA (commonly known as a mini-stroke). One is a man in his 40s and the other a woman in her 50s. In honor of these dear people and all the loved ones my family has lost to heart disease I am sending this same message to each of my friends.

Jcofla has a profile here on AARP that you need to see. Please, take just a few minutes to read John's journal "Breakfast in Bed" and to watch three short videos about the American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women Day". Then take another minute to tell John thank you! You can find his profile here:
