About Me

I worked as a professional journalist and public relations professional for more than three decades before entering semi-retirement in 2007. During my PR career, I was a principal TV spokesman for a major electric utility during the California energy crisis in 2000-2001. I knew I had made it to the big time when people started coming up to me in Costco to ask for more information. As a communications manager at San Diego Gas & Electric, I won public relations awards for publicizing the potential of electric cars; for the unveiling of a merger that created a Fortune 500 company; and for co-authoring a pivotal white paper on energy efficiency, electric transportation and the environment. As a journalist, my newspaper stories brought in a $25,000 anonymous donation to a Christmas charity, caused government agencies to take action on problems highlighted in my stories, and spurred developers to fix their botched subdivisions. I have been a business reporter and/or editor at the Los Angeles Daily News, the Orlando Sentinel and Crain's Cleveland Business, guiding news coverage or covering topics like real estate, retail, stocks and utilities. I'm married to a lovely woman, Kim, and we are working on a novel together.

Interests:
I'm interested in whitewater rafting, home coffee roasting, tai chi, acupressure, and fitness in general. I've got pet rabbits and a bonsai tree. I'm developing an interest in aging issues, including healthcare and economic issues. I'm also interested in communications issues, including social media, and the effectiveness of various communications channels and messaging strategies.

She writes historical fiction set in the South.
