Resort Lifestyle Attracts Many Baby Boomers! Are You One of Them?

When I became a Realtor in 1979 we catered to our clients by finding them homes with large square footage, large building lots and homes with acreage.  Then everyone worked all weekend cutting grass, cleaning their large homes and spent money on upkeep of their properties.  Condo’s were not popular during these days.

Then things changed.  Everyone wanted to come home, change into their athletic clothes and go out playing tennis, golfing, jogging and watch their kids play softball, soccer, football, etc.  The lifestyle changed.  Builders and developers started to build "smart homes".  These were homes with technology pre-programmed to make the lifestyle even more easier with gadgets.  Lots became smaller, square footage wasn’t as important as long as the home had nice large bathrooms and lavish kitchens even though families started to go out more to eat.

In the following decade we started to see a lot of construction of cluster homes, townhomes, condominiums. You no longer needed riding lawn mowers, cutting your grass with the scissors was more the lifestyle.  Going out to the pool, playground, park, walking was more important than cleaning and maintaining large lots.  Developers started to build incredible large amenities like water slides for the children, incredible playgrounds, club house facilities, etc. and the amenities SOLD families into these communities.

Well, here we are in the 21st century and many changes are happening again.  We hear and see more "GREEN" stickers on developments.  We see green certified homes, buildings, etc.  We see people eating out a lot, we see them more stressed because of the traffic congestion, road rage, economy situation such as gasoline prices increasing, price of  food going up, layoffs happening all across the nation.  We see more foreclosures than ever before, we see banks closing.  What is TODAY’s TREND?  Baby Boomers are retiring.  They still have money and they are thinking differently today.  They are the wealthiest generation.  Technology is allowing them to travel and do business anywhere in the world.  What does this mean?  That means they can now sell their large homes and buy condo or a smaller home in a resort.  They want to travel, they want to live, they want to eat out, they want to experience life because they are still young and they can afford it.  Therefore, we are focusing on RESORT Properties now.  Why?  Because they can now own a home in Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Vail, Utah, Florida, Europe.  We’ve been through their entire lifelong process and we’ve experienced these changes with them.  We empathize with their feelings, with their desires, with their wants.  They want a sexy place, luxurious locations, lifestyle that is stress free.
