About Me

Hi! Grandfather Claude was a semi-uneducated walking mailman, who said the only thing he knew was what was written on the back of postcards. He was the one only one who called me by my full name, David Claude. Welcome to "About Me."

Interests:
My sister Barbara and mother Betty both live at the Reston Sunrise Assisted Living, so I help with their mail, banking, and bill paying. My major "hobby" is preparing a 14-year-old home for resale in 2009, and then moving to a retirement community, perhaps in Georgia near daughter Cindy. I've run 20 marathons, last in 2007, but none in 2008; best sequence was 6 marathons in 6 weeks (including Baltimore, NYC, Marine Corps, Montgomery County, Richmond, and Northern Central Trail), ending that sequence with my fastest time of 4:17 at the NCT. Each spring, free-time permitting, I work part-time as a tax preparer (I did about 90 taxes in 2007 and exactly one in 2008). My wife and I like competitive bridge. Recently, I've subscribed to an on-line genealogy service, which has been really fun to trace the Warlick family back to Daniel Worley's (sic, as written on the British ship's manifest, but Daniel was German) debarkation in Philadelphia about 1750 and his subsequent trek to Lincoln County, NC, with his new American bride. In 2008, I have purchased a $5,000 acre in county-capitol Lincolnton just for the psycological connection to the ancestors; now I need asphalt rather than mud on the county road that accesses the acre. The acre is very close to my great grandfather's land, but not at all close to Grandfather Claude's land, which my father inherited in the early 1970s and promptly sold. Dad started, and I continue to fund, an annual scholarship for a graduate of Lincolnton High School. Go Lincolnton!

4/7/2009. Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.  Emily, Yoav, and Elie left.
  
4/6/2009. Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.  Cindy, Jana, and Karli arrived.  Jimmy fixed the septic system.  Jesse arrived, ate, and left.  Cindy flooded Jesse's bathroom.
 
4/5/2009. I went to OakMarr, doing the P.Elliptical (T60L6.5/6.5C637).  Carol and I shopped at Giant.  Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.  Emily, Yoav, and Elie arrived.
 
4/4/2009. Carol and I drove to UVa.  We ate lunch at the fraternity house, then played an inning or two of baseball.  Carol and I walked 2.5 miles.  We had dinner at the DoubleTree with the entire fraternity.  We were home about 11 pm.

3/26/2009. I went to TJ to learn from Jane.  We had a free lunch. No walk today.  In the evening, Carol and I went to our bridge lesson.  After that, I entered Muni Mae data into Excel.
 
3/25/2009. I cleaned the basement some and worked on TJPF documents some.  Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.
 
3/24/2009. Between Carol and me, we emptied and spread 30 bags. I cleaned some in the basement and edited some TJPF documents. Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.
 
3/23/2009. I edited TJPF documents. Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles. Carol and I participated in the BCL Coaching Corner.
 
3/22/2009.  I spent 5 hours spreading some of the mulch.  Between Carol and I, we emptied and spread 80 bags, leaving 30 for tomorrow.   Carol and I walked 2.5 miles; we were too tired from mulch to deal with Sammy's "issues".
 
3/21/2009.  Jesse continued his visit from college.  The Boy Scouts delivered 150 bags of mulch at 8 am.  I spent 5 hours spreading some of the mulch.  Between Carol and I, we emptied and spread 40 bags, leaving 110 for tomorrow.  The dog catcher took away a black dog that was visiting the neighbor.  No walk.  Jesse left in the evening.
 
3/20/2009.  Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.  I read some Raisers Edge manuals.  Jesse visited from college.
   
3/19/2009.  Carol and I conducted "Bridge with Carol and David" at Sunrise.  We had two tables of seniors playing.  I e-filed Wilbur's RTA taxes.  Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.  In the evening, Carol and I went to a bridge lesson at Hunters Woods.
   
3/18/2009.  Carol and I cleaned the basement while the cleaning crew cleaned the upstairs.  Afterwards, we went to Oak Marr gym.  I rode the P.Elliptical (T60L6/6C630) and bike (T60L8C438).  Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.
   
3/17/2009.  In the morning, I went to the TJ Partnership Fund.  Jane was a no show.  I shopped for food at Safeway, and picked up my shirts from the Safeway laundry.  I did TaxSoftware.com taxes for Wilbur.  Carol, Sammy, and I walked 2.5 miles.
