About Me

Myers-Briggs "INTJ" which according to one assessment I read means I'm a "Rational Mastermind"! How can I disagree with that??? :-)

Interests:
I got into volunteering in 2001 (post 9/11) when I couldn't find a paying job. After a short time I realized it released my inner extrovert. The jobs were mostly as a greeter at the Field Museum and the Art Institute. I've been with the Art Institute for 6+ years now. I've also done short term and one-shot gigs such as reading for the blind, and parade marshall. Besides a regular volunteer shift at the Art Institute, I'm also a city tour guide with the Chicago Greeter program of the Chicago Office of Tourism. I really enjoy meeting people from all over the world and showing my beautiful city! Call me selfish but I look for volunteer gigs that are fun! And I'm always hopeful that they'll turn into a real, paying job. Aside from that, I've had some fun as a (paid) background extra in a couple of movies: The Weatherman and Fred Claus.

Dear Friend,
I have volunteered since I was 14, first at the City of Hope, then Hospice, then raising squirrels and possums for release in the wild. Since my stroke in '95, which was mild, but left me feeling unwell all the time, I have been pretty much homebound. I went back to college in my 50s after a back and shoulder injuries stopped my career as a court reporter. I loved it. I even loved the Algebra and Statistics, French and History. But since '95, as I said, I am trying to find a life by myself at home. What makes me mad is that I have not reason to feel so empty and depressed. I have a roof over my head and two living children who I see maybe once a week. So I am mad at myself for not finding a way to pull out of this.
You seem like such an interesting person, a critical thinker. It is so important not to let anyone just put thoughts in your mind, but to look at everything and figure it out for yourself.
I would love to hear from you.

It's good to have friends. I worked in special events for nearly ten years and I did all kinds of things some big and some small. I have been retired a while and suddenly find that due to the economy, I'm having to go back to work. I'm going to work for a Nursing home where I will engage in being a jack of all trades along with marketing and special events. I have one daughter and one granddaughter who live in Washington state. I use to work for DeVry as an admissions representative and was in and out of Chicago , usually around christmas. I think Chicago is the best big city I've been in. Very interesting vibe.
