Here's an article that I wrote for my website.

What Do You Bring to the Game?

A few weeks ago Kurt Warner the quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals announced his retirement from football after 12 seasons. Kurt Warner will undoubtedly become a Football Hall of Fame inductee. Some say Warner had a magical career, but did he really?

Those who know Warner know him as a man of great faith, but there is more for all us to learn from. Warner was a real TEAM player. You know the acronym as Together Everyone Accomplishes More or Together Everyone Achieves More.

You see Warner was a very unselfish player, who loved to win, but understood the importance of others in his life. His family, friends, teammates, coaches, fans and his community were all important to Warner. That is and has been the story of Warner’s life. Never give up. Never lose confidence in your ability, your faith or family. Stay humble and all else will fall into place.

As we consider the thoughts in the last paragraph, we are reminded that these are not just the characteristics of an athlete, but the characteristics of truly successful people.

Whether in business or in our personal lives we must never loose our focus, as we work towards any goals, but at the same time we much never forget that we don’t we don’t find true success without the help of others.

English poet John Donne wrote phrase “no man is an island….” No doubt Kurt Warner clearly understood and never lost sight of the fact that we are all inter-connected, and the stood the importance of building positive relationship we all whom he came into contact with.

I've been spending a lot of time helping people draft their resumes, and conducting practice interview session.  A common theme that I'm seeing, is that the majority of job seekers do not have a viable network of business associates, peers, senior business leaders etc. The new thought that has been advance in networking is a play on the old theme, "it's who you know", is now delivered as it's "who knows you".

The other thing that I'm seeing are job seekers who don't do their homework (reseach prospective opportunities).  This involves getting beyond the headlines of a job posting and searching that hidden piece of information that might open doors.

The other thing is I running across people who are afraid to try something new. New stuff, is both challenging and exciting, and can really get your juices flowing.

Just did a "voice-over" for a non-profit organization. For years people have been telling me that I had a great voice, of course it never seemed that way to me.  Recently someone at this non-profit heard me speak and suggested to their marketing director, that I might be a good candidate to do the "voice-over"  It was only three lines, that took five takes, but maybe it will lead to something greater.
