About Me

I am 56 years (young); 2 year breast cancer survivor. I have a lot of trouble with depression and anxiety. The people on the AARP message boards have helped me so much. The people here are so kind, caring, and compassionate. I have been married almost 10 years to a wonderful, kind, caring, loving, and compassionate man, that I thank God for. The pink hat I have on in my picture - was my favorite hat I wore when I lost my hair from the chemotherapy. I wore it all the time - even to sleep. A hat I bought at Walmart. I recently met a cancer patient that was in need of some hats and scarves - so I sent my favorite pink hat and some other ones - to her - with love and prayers too. The chemotherapy left me with neuropathy in my feet and finger tips. Neuropathy is a side affect of the chemotherapy, however, not everyone gets it. It is very painful, but can be managed. I have now had it for over 2 years, so it has become a way of life for me. I have been to a neurologist and it is nerve damage - and most doctors say it is permanent nerve damage, but I choose to believe that it will get better, because it has gotten a little better, after having it for over 2 years. I take one day at a time and that helps a lot. I have an older sister - she lives in Colorado and I love her so much. She calls me 2 to 3 times a week to check on me and she makes me laugh too! She came up with something really funny to make me laugh -- she said her hobby is underwater basket weaving. Of course in Colorado - it is too cold to even think of being in the water. There is no such thing as underwater basket weaving, and lastly - my sister has a great sense of humor. We have many great laughs when we talk about our underwater basket weaving projects. It is really fun to laugh - and laughter helps so much.

Interests:
I would love to learn to crochet and make things for people. I would also love to learn to speak Spanish and be fluent in speaking this language. They are both a slow process for me - but I am trying very hard! Would love to go camping but my husband and I both have health problems and can no longer camp in a tent like we used to. So we haven't been camping in a long time and I sure do miss it. I love the outdoors - the birds chirping, the animals, the quietness and beauty, and the stillness at night and the beauty of the stars in the sky.

I have been doing pretty good, buy my constant companion is the Neuropathy in my feet - a side effect of chemotherapy.  It has been having a real bad "burning" type of effect on the bottom of my feet lately and that irritates my nerves - keeps me on edge most of the time. Laughter is my favorite thing to take my mind off of the pain.  I have been dealing neuropathy since January of 2006 - so I will keep on dealing with it and savour the good days and get through the days when the pain "rises to the top".

I just finished a Beginning Spanish class at the community college and it has been a huge accomplishment for me. Met some really sweet - young folks - made some new friends, and it has helped my self esteem tremendously. If my health will continue to stay steady - I hope to take Spanish 2 during the second semester of Summer school.  I just take things one day at a time.

Thanks for listening,

Charline
