Social Security...get ready to take the hit

I'm looking into my crystal ball and I don't like what I see.

In their zeal to provide universal health care, the president and his party will expend so much money and political capital that when Social Security "reform" hits the table a "comprimise" will be called for, "in the interest of future generations"

Read that to mean the baby boomers will get short changed on the promise.  We worked hard for the last 40 or so years, eagerly reading the statements with our estimated future benefits and the age they will accrue.

Our retirement plans already assaulted by devastating losses in our 401k's will be further eroded by the sell out of the benefits promised us, that we worked for and earned.

It is up to each one of us and AARP as our organized advocate to put the president and both houses of congress on notice that we will not be scapegoated.  Other means have been proposed to secure the system for the future.

We demand that the retirement age, including early retirement not be raised and that benefits not be curtailed.

Here's the fix:
Dismantle NASA. The shuttles have already created larger holes in the atmosphere allowing dangerous ultra violet rays in our environment.
Use the money to replenish social security and health care. There's definately enough.
Problem solved!

Why didn't the Government just divide the $250.00 by 12 months and add it to the checks and call it a cola. Everyone knows by now that older Americans are
taking money from our CONGRESS that keeps their $170,000 paycheck from
getting bigger. I know its tough when you only make $170,000 a year but maybe they would like to live on my Moms $16000 a year check. I'll bet they can't do it.
When GREED like our congress operate under take hold the American people that pay their wages in the first place take a back seat in this country. I am a Vietnam veteran who will be going on social security in 3 years and I'm betting I'll be lucky if its still around. I paid all my working life into it and it is rightfully my money.
I spent 2 years in Vietnam for America and look what is happening, this is tragic.
AARP needs to look into home owners insurance companies in Florida while they are investigating the ripping off of older Americans. I never thought I would be putting my beautiful AMERICA down like this but we have a corrupt body running our system and older Americans and veterans are paying dearly for it.

I would like to know why our Social Security payments will not enjoy a cost-of-living adjustment in 2010 and perhaps not until 2013. This will be a first in the history of Social Security and why now? Right when older Americans are living on less, their savings have been decimated, and interest rates are at their lowest point. Our legislators enjoy a cost-of-living increase whenever they please as well as medical benefits that are top notch. Perhaps they should be on Social Security and Medicare and then something might be done to improve these earned benefits for all Americans. What is AARP doing to address these issues?

I would like to know where the peoples benefits went, that died before they could draw Social Security. I know of 5 people who worked an paid into social security that never drawed one penny and no other family member drawed it. There has to be many others that did not get to draw social security. Where did it go? I do not think that any person, are spouse that has never worked should draw a goverment check. We have to many people coming from other countrys that the goverment is giving a check to. Stop giving out the money that we pay in and there want be so many wanting to come here for a free ride. We will have the money for the ones that did work an pay into social security. Woman who worked most of life

AGREED! I have been emailing my Senator Schumer and Representative Louise Slaughter to fix the fiscal problems of Social Security and Medicare BEFORE launching the federal government into a new and expensive health care program. Recent reports by the trustees of both Social Security and Medicare highlight the fiscal difficulties that both these programs face in the near future. Our government has its priorities all wrong.
