Hi All,
I am new to this type of conversation so please help me to know the rules so I can enjoy the site. It looks like you are all having fun. I am wanting to retire somewhere that is inexpensive; I would like a small place with good natural lighting to do my pastels. I love reading, good music, being with people, and the outdoors as my canvas.

HI! I'm retired in Boulder City NV--pretty inexpensive place to live, and the only town in Nevada that doesn't have gambling within the city limits (no slot machines in markets). There are casinos outside the city limits--one about one mile out and the other about two, but they are small and unobtrusive and good sources of inexpensive dining. Our only movie house is also in one of them. Vegas and Green Valley (a part of Henderson NV) are just down the road for entertainment and shopping other than groceries. We have a Starbucks, as well as some other fast food places, several restaurants and a great wine bar that serves good sandwiches and salads and has a great selection of wine. Vegas is over the hill and about 25 minutes away and there if you want to see a show or your guests want to go. I have been in Southern Nevada since 1966 and I love it here. My niece lives in Boulder CO, and my sister has a B&B named Chinaberry Hill in Tacoma. My brother lives here. Most of my friends and I over the years spent little time in the casinos--we raised kids and worked at regular jobs just like the rest of the country. Boulder City also has its own utility company, which is much cheaper than Vegas. It also has activities nearly every month and plenty of opportunities to volunteer. The population is around 14,000; it has one high school, two grade schools and one middle school. Colleges, trade schools and the Culinary Institute of America are in Henderson and Vegas. The air in BC is cleaner than Vegas, too. Check us out!
