My Journals (3)

There’s a very ugly sniping contest going on in a forum called, of all things, "Community Help".  It’s ugly enough that, after browsing the forum to see if my limited knowledge might be of use to others, I chose not to join the group and instead will continue planting my seeds of experience here, where I don’t have to tolerate any nastiness.

The subject of all the vehemence in Community Help centers around someone who had suggested that autoplay music in profiles might be annoying to those who browse those profiles.  I refuse to get involved in the silliness going on there, but for those who are interested in changing their profile music to an "on demand" setting, here’s the solution:

There is a line of HTML code in your music tag that reads (in brackets),

param name="autoplay" value="true" /

By changing the value from "true" to "false" the music only starts when the visitor clicks play.

rae1tom asks:

I just left a comment for Kinge’s three poems for Mother’s. In the comment box there is not anything for adding a picture with comment, how do you do it in the comment box such as the one I’m in right now?

In order to add pictures to your comments the picture URL must be typed in with HTML tags. For instance, if I wanted to add the picture with the URL
"http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/785/910002.JPG" I would have to type the following lines enclosed in the "lesser than" (<) and "greater than" (>) brackets.

img border="0" src="http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/785/910002.JPG"

By not enclosing the lines I am able to allow you to see what I’ve typed. Putting in the brackets yields the following picture

Further, I can control the size of the image by including width and height tags. For example if I add

width="176" height="191"

to the tag it becomes

img border="0" src="http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/785/910002.JPG" width="176" height="191"

and I now get the resized image below

Adding pictures to comment boxes is more complicated, but if that’s what your heart desires, I hope this has helped.

Off the subject, please send me a message intructing me how you got a picture on the page. I don’t seem to know how to do that yet.

Pretty simple (well, relatively).  To add a picture to your post, click on the picture icon in the reply window

This window will pop up

Enter the URL (web address) of the picture here (the one I used was http://members.aol.com/ryanagi/45adapter.jpg and I found it using Google images)

Or, if you have any pictures uploaded to your AARP profile, you can add them by clicking here

I don’t recommend using AARP photos unless they are tiny to begin with, because it shrinks them down so small you can’t make out any detail.  A good place to put pictures you want to use in posts is on a photo sharing website like Flickr or WebShots.  Then you can link to their URL and they’ll show up in your post at a decent size.

Happy posting!
