We used to go to the local hobby shop which in this case was Todd's Hoppy Shop in Upper Darby, PA. They were a sponser of the Ford/Aurora races. I won one race but lost in the store finals. You won a medal which I have since lost. It was a green Mustang. If you spun out on a curve that was pretty much it unless the corner judge was fast in getting you back
This article takes me back to the year 1964, when three other friends and myself each built Aurora raceways on 4' x 8' plywood. We held weekly races on each track and kept a point standings for each track. We actually had different divisions including stock car, which was a car 'out of the box', Sprint Car's built out of pieces of poster board along with glue. Some of cars looked exactly like the cars at the Bedford Speedway. Living in Pennsylvania and living less then a mile from the Bedford Speedway, where they held weekly sprint car racing, we would go to every race that was held there. Still have the track although, it had to be torn down, but is kept in boxes awaiting my grandchildren to play with. I raced on my track, which was a four lane high banked oval. We had the same steering wheel controllers like in the picture. Many memories and so much fun
