I almost walked into a bear in Frisco a couple years ago and I never want to do that again! After that encounter I started paying more attention to my surroundings when I'm hiking alone. I was walking a section of the BLT trail on Saturday and when the path got beary scary I decided to turn back. I turned around and this is what I found! Unlike me, this little fox was completely unconcerned about what lurked in the willows

What a wonderful chance video. I didn't think to use the video feature on my Cannon until GYPSY was chasing the miller. I have tried it several times since. Tried to download it on the the campsite, but it didn't happen? Love your photos, sound, even!

OOOOHHHH WHEEEE! You best be careful in them there woods! You might be asked for dinner, and the dinner might be you! Wish I had a cool beautiful place to hike! We have lots of skunks and we are in a RABIES alert. 13 skunks so far! We have tons of wild cats, kittie kats on the wild side. Once we had three wild pigs trotting through downtown in the early morning hours. The animal control guys herded them up to the top parking floor of a building.... I thought "These piggies are going to FLY!" But they got roped up and put down. There was a beautiful stag in the huge city park... it had lived there for a few years. The guy that was in charge of the park grounds, hunted him down, shot him... so sad. The guy got fired and fined big time. Don't get me wrong, I love venison.... but in the right place and the right time. Keep yourself safe RMG, we have become addicted to your wonderful videos and beautiful journals. In the spirit of fresh air and sun shine, Sijai

It is great that you had your camera with you. Mine is usually always with me, too---except when I REALLY want it!
It is always exciting to come across wildlife---at a safe distance. Over the years, growing up in AZ, we would often see various animals, especially driving up into the mountains. Cougars, javalinas, snakes, bobcats, and of course, coyotes. The cougar and javalina sightings were VERY rare. Ken was once working on a house foundation in the foothills. He looked up from the wall he was building, and stared right into the eyes of a mountain lion-----behind a small bush not more than 20 ft.. away. Ken just stopped and stared, and after a minute or so, the lion turned and walked away. He must not have been hungry enough to take on Ken. It did shake Ken up, though. His only weapon was the trowel in his hand----and nobody else was around.
When my folks and I would go on a picnic in the mtns., we would often stay until dark. We could hear the lions calling to each other in the distance at dusk. Creepy for sure!
Here at our house in WI, we often have deer in the yard in the evening or early morning. Ken says that they have always come through here since he was little. There seems to be a natural "trail" that they follow between the two rivers here--about a mile apart. We are two blocks from one of them. The deer still follow the trail, even though the farms are gone, and subdivisions have taken their place. Lots of bunnies here, too, along with a rare possum and skunk (which we usually just smell!)

I'll have to try the video feature on my camera. I know I have one - - just never used it! AND, of course, I have to carry my camera with me. Ron commented that my favorite 6 words are "I wish I had my camera". That should be a hint!

For Cby and Carol ~ I've had my little digital camera for a couple years and rarely used the video feature but I'm finding it works pretty good for catching little boys in action and little surprises like this fox. I have trouble posting videos whether they are from my camera or a Windows Movie Maker project. And they don't translate as clearly as they do when I burn them onto DVDs but oh, well....I keep trying!

Hi Patricia,

Love your foxy film. We gave our camcorder to our oldest son. We are thinking about getting another one.
Have a Great Day!
Carol :-)

Lucky girl to have a video camera with you! This is a lovely addition to your videos. We have urban coyotes here and lots of deer. There used to be possums too but they would become road kill when they pretended to die in front of a car. I don't see them at all anymore. Maybe they learned not to cross the street!

Yeah, I didn't go over to see if there was a crumb left but it could have been just about anything. They even eat berries and there were lots of yummy little strawberries around. Who knows?

Oh, what skinny little fella! I love it. That reminds me that I saw a beaver coasting down a small stream near my home (five minutes outside the city, can you believe it). He was adorable - but what was he doing in the burbs?? Unlike you, I wasn't armed with a video recorder. :-(
