IN A HABITAT FRAME OF MIND

4 February 2010 - under a thin blanket of snow

I really don't have time to write today. We have been poring over the list of RV Care-a-Vanner Builds for this year and trying to envision the summer ahead. I don't know what the future holds but if things stay calm around here we may sneak away for another two week Habitat for Humanity build somewhere nearby this summer. In the meantime we'll have to settle for wonderful memories of great people, good laughs and hard work. It was worth every minute!

Laramie, Wyoming ~ Fall 2008 ~ Jim

Laramie, Wyoming ~ Fall 2008 ~ First day on the jobsite

Laramie, Wyoming ~ We didn't get to stay long enough but this is what the duplex in the previous photo would look like when it was finished.

Laramie, Wyoming ~ Cold, crisp October day on the jobsite!

Jackson, Wyoming ~ Fall 2006 ~ A friend took this shot of the second story work. That's Jim on the high ladder!

Jackson, Wyoming ~ Spring 2007 ~ First day on the jobsite

Jackson, Wyoming ~ Spring 2007 ~ This is the same house after two weeks of volunteer labor!!

Jackson, Wyoming ~ Fall 2006 ~ Team Leader, Charlie on our first day of our first build with the Habitat for Humanity RV Care-a-Vanners

Jackson, Wyoming ~ Fall 2006 ~ If you compare the previous photo to this one you can see what 2 weeks and a dozen volunteers can accomplish on a Habitat house. You might also be able to understand why Jim and I LOVE building with the Care-a-Vanners!

Jackson, Wyoming ~ Spring 2007 ~ Our favorite team leader is an incredible photographer and a great volunteer named Charlie. He calls this "We do Windows" and I call it "The Girl who Sounds Like a Cowboy when she Walks" (I LOVE my toolbelt!)

In this journal, you've illustrated everything I love about Habitat - the mission, the love, and the spirit of the people. Everyone I've met through my stints with Habitat - staff, homeowners, volunteers - has enriched my life in wondrous ways. Thank you so much for sharing this

Great pictures, hey I like your toolbelt too!

Back in 2003 when the small non-profit I worked at was going under and was faced with layoffs, I applied for a job at Habitat of Metro Denver as the office manager. Although I was in the top three, I didn't get the job and was sure disappointed. They do such great work, thanks in large measure to folks like you and Jim! Hope you find a great project to work on this year.
