Hello. I'm Jillian Barfield. I just qualified for AARP, so here I am. I'm a transwoman and am currently living in Milwaukee. Right now, I'm working at a corporation that operates several Extended Care facilities, programming their payroll clocks. I've worked for IBM and MasterCard and was VP of a corporation until I got fired for being transsexual. I also own and operate the first and only employment website for transgender professionals, TJobBank. ( http://www.tjobbank.com ) It's a free service. I'm a trans-workplace advocate and try to do as much as I can for the Transgender community. I was born in Saint Louis, lived in Tampa, Charlotte and Milwaukee. I like warm weather, but somehow I'm here in Milwaukee. Go figure. I have a BA in Fine Art from the University of South Florida and I'm single. That's about it. I was surprised to see LGBT groups here on AARP. I needed health insurance so I joined and here I am. Please say hi to me. It's nice to be here

Hi Jillian,
Keep up the great work you are doing. I am involved with helping many students feel comfortable about their choices. It is always a good idea for them to look at the pros and cons of their decisions to "come out". I will make sure I add your website to my list of resources.
I pray for your success.

Bruce and I recently moved to the Big Island, I was forced into early retirement after working 30 years for a HMO in Colorado. Bruce used to live in Hawaii, turned me on to this place, I fell in love with it, we've been here now 2 months. I've discovered that its lots harder to find a job at age 50, they give jobs to locals first, even if they are not qualifed! Another thing there are groups here in the area for men to hangout with, but nothing for the, in general GLBT community, not yet anyway. Part of this comment is I was asked to help start a Center for the GLBT here in Hilo, get us on the map, I want to succeed at this, this sleepy side of the island has a large GLBT community, older like us but no direction, no activisim. Someone here told me this is where all the twinks come to dye (elephant grave yard). I'd like to pose a question to anyone worth answering me back, how do I keep the intrest in the community to be active, and care about our rights. If this gets printed great? The male community doesn't differ much from a youngster in a candy store. Any sugestions? Thanks for all your help, and maybe will have more AARP's listed for Hawaii!

Hello, I am Imani and an honored member of this network. I think it's wonderful that we have a space and place at AARP to discusss what is happening as we get older and as lolder lgbt folks or wherever we happen to be on that continuum. I've known my committed partner (we've got to find a word for wife/husband maybe wifesbund huswife, never mind, I digress...)forever. Three years ago, we finally took vows to publically reinforce our commitment to each other and completed the paperwork to be recognized as domestic partners because in DC it really means something. We were going to California to get married but our attorney advised against it because it could effect our domestic partnership. So will wait to see if we will be able to do it in DC or if we will have to move to Canada.
